Until it´s not the last train on line at night. But probably trains are parked at the depot when service is finished.

I have another question concerning La Défense. It is said, that the original layout fot line 1 was deeper than that was build. Therefore two station-shells exist, called La Défense Elysée and La Défense Michelet. If this is true, what happened with them and when were they build? I suppose there is no use for metro in future.

Kind regards

I understand that the original alignment was to be south of where the current allignment is, thus the two "shells" were built. The plan was later abandoned, I believe due to a closer connection being needed to the RER, Suburban, and LRT lines at La Defense.

The "shells" are just that. There are no tracks, platforms, or passenger access.

This is true.
These two stations are just two underground box built under the ground of the la Défense during the 1970', at this time the ground concrete slab was still in development.
These spaces were kept for the future use, to make the construction work for stations under the crowded ground (parkings, electric, water, ventilation... facilities) of la Defense less complicated.

One is under an underground parking of Les Quatre temps mall (La Défense Elysée), I visited it several years ago during the Heritage weekends. It is quite huge.
The second one (La Défense Michelet) is smaller but it is not accessible.

During the 1980's, it was found that the extension of la line 1 under the Seine as it was planned before would be very complicated.
It was decided to built the line above the Seine river at ground level by using the Neuilly bridge which would be widened and the central part of the space kept for the A14 motorway under the slab.

EDIT: Note that the space for the former La Défense Elysée station might be used for the new line 15.

Thank you very much for your answers. Concerning use for line 15 please let me put another question. I heard that there was another station-shell built for a deviation for existing line 5 at Gare de Lyon. This was later used for line 14. Never found someone to confirm this. Well didn´t knew this forum here...

Kind regards

Deviation of the line 5 to gare de Lyon? I never heard of this.
The line 5 did terminates at Gare de Lyon at the beginning (July 1906 to December 1906) but trains were going to the same platform hall that the train of the line 1.
Infact there is still an unused platform linked with the line 5 tracks. We often see some MF67 parked here.

I also know in the same area, the former voies des Finances, a tiny tunnel with small train linking Quai de la Rapée with the headquarters of the RATP near Gare de Lyon.
The tunnel was partially demolished to make way for the RER D and line 14.

Thinking about it, it is true that I have seen map with a project of a branch of line 8 to Gare de Lyon and Bercy in the 1970's.
The Gare de Lyon station of line 14 is located in space inside the RER station which opened in 1977.
It is very highly possible that the Gare de Lyon station of line 14 is in fact inside a station-shell built at the same time that the RER in planning of a subway line here.

I think it is true, it was maybe not for the line 5 but this would seem right when we see the position of the line 14 station at Gare de Lyon.

Yes, you´re right. Hard to believe it has something to do with M5. Now you wrote it I remember that this station-shell was build together with line D as you said. Paris is rich of unused tunnels and even in the last decades there are station-shells build for future use, amazing.

Kind regards

I know that there is a station shell built under Orly sud terminal but I am not aware of any other kind of unused space buit for a planned metro service.

There is one unused tunnel for the RER A after Nanterre Prefecture. This is due to a change of route compared with the earliest panning.
The thing funny about this tunnel is that despite being over 40 years old, its walls are still white (unfortunately with graffiti) because there have been no train service here.

There is an other station shell in La Défense. But line 1 was extended through the A14 highway tunnels instead.

Yep, but compared to the size of the network no one can beat Brussels if it comes to the number of unused stations per km

Kind regards

It is quite difficult to beat Belgium in term of unused structure built.
Antwerp, Charleroi, I am not sure about Liège.

[QUOTE=Minato ku;106290428 I am not sure about Liège.
[/QUOTE]

It has 800 m of tunnel besides river Meuse for former Semi-Metro-project. The test tracks of TAU in Herstal near Charleroi don´t exist anymore. Maybe we should collect this in a thread about Belgium.

Kind regards

Is there a common reason/simple answer why this happens around Belgium? What is it?

Finances mostly.

In the case of Charleroi, economic and population declines primarily contributed to the cancellation of the system's "broader" plan for a heavy metro.

EDIT: Before we get way too off topic, we do have public transport threads for Antwerp and Brussels, so it will be more appropriate to discuss this matter in those threads. I don't see any threads for Charleroi.

Place Monge
Something rare in Paris metro, an entrance or exit to the exterior with escalators on both way.

It is not really a new because this is been here for months but they put big "no entry" signs on the exits doors in the stations of line 2.
