Funding agreed for Paris metro Line 4 automation
Monday, June 09, 2014

THE BOARD of Ile-de-France Transport Authority (Stif) voted on June 5 to approve a €100m contribution towards a €256m project to automate Paris's second-busiest metro line.

Line 4 runs for 12.1km Porte de Clignancourt to Mairie de Montrouge and carries around 740,000 passengers per day, second only to Line 1, which has already been converted to driverless operation.

Line 4 will receive the fleet of MP89 trains currently in use on Line 14, which will be released by the delivery of new trains being ordered in connection with the extension from St Lazare to Mairie de St Ouen.

Patronage has increased on the line following the opening of the 1.5km southern extension from Porte de Orléans to Mairie de Montrouge, and a further 1.7km extension to Bagneux is due to open by the end of 2019.

The remaining €156m will be financed by Paris Transport Authority (RATP) and the first driverless trains are due to run on Line 4 in 2020.

Agreed. Thank gosh! Cause the current station is horrendous!

And great news on the funding for M4 automation!

Last Sunday during the night (I should say Monday, it was almost 2 am ) I saw a MP89 with doors covered with white films

I don't know if they will do this with all the MP89 stock but they have covered all the doors of the MI2N stock (RER A) in a similar way.

Are those new corridors and halls part of the renovation of the whole Châtelet–Les Halles?

Yes but it is not new parts of Chatetet.
Renderings show existing parts of the station but when they will be renovated.

A map showing the new transfert access (in red) between the line 4 platforms and the corridor linking to the line 14.

Construction starts on Paris Line 14 extension
Wednesday, June 11, 2014

A groundbreaking ceremony was held in Paris on June 11 to mark the official start of construction on the 5.8km northern extension of Line 14 from St Lazare to Mairie de Saint Ouen.

The event was attended by the mayor of Paris Mrs Anne Hidalgo, president of Ile-de-France regional council Mr Jean-Paul Huchon, Paris Transport Authority (RATP) CEO Mr Pierre Mongin and Ile-de-France transport authority (Stif) president Mr Patrick Devedjian.

The extension will relieve the heavily congested section of Line 13 north of St Lazare and will have capacity to carry up to 40,000 passengers per hour. It will interchange with RER Line C, Transilien (suburban) Line L, and light rail Line T3b, which is being extended from Porte de la Chapelle to Porte d'Asnieres.

The €1.38bn project includes the construction of four new stations, Pont Cardinet, Porte de Clichy, Clichy Saint Ouen RER and Mairie de Saint Ouen.

RATP and Stif ordered 14 MP05 rubber-tyred driverless trains from Alstom in 2012 to expand the Line 14 fleet in readiness for the opening of the extension in 2017.

Line 14 will ultimately become part of the Grand Paris express metro network and further two further new sections are planned which will increase the total length of the line to 30km, extending it north to St Denis Pleyel and south to Orly Airport via Villejuif
Any final renders of new Line 14 stations?

This is awesome news. Really. Paris is going to get the most extensive metro system among cities of its size.

Some add-ons to note.

*You can now select which rolling stock you operate (MF 67, MP 73, MF 01, or MP 05). I have completed Lines 1 and 6 using the MF 01. One thing to note, station announcements are static on Lines 1 and 5, so regardless of what rolling stock you select, the respective announcements will still be made (sounds very weird if you are using the MF 67 on Line 5 or the MP 73 on Line 1).

**I have not yet tried to run the MP 05 on any other line on the simulator yet, other than Line 1. I would assume one would receive penalties galore with the train being larger than the platform. :P

*Earlier versions of the simulator ended the game automatically if you missed a station. This no longer seems to be the case, but you will receive a penalty. Penalties still apply if you arrive behind schedule (timer goes into negative numbers), run with the train doors open, or exceed the speed limit. The game still automatically ends if you fail to observe a red light (obviously for safety reasons in real life).

*Graphics have improved greatly since the earliest version I've played (which had the Sprague on Line 12, not sure if the creators will bring that train back). On Line 5, they even show the abandoned Arsenal station.

That's good. Makes a ton of sense to connect those two stations.

Wow, 85secs that is pretty impressive!
There cannot be much operating margin available.
