But I don't understand. Taipei 101 is the word's tallest building. But the diagram shows that Sears tower is taller if antennas are included. And if you count by roofheight, then Burj Dubai is the tallest building. Can someone explain?

Edit: Aaah, now I understand. Spires counts but not antennas? That must hurt for Sears tower

The reasoning is very simple: antennas are not permanent. They are detachable and temporary. For many years, the Sears Tower did not have its antennas, and presumably some day it will not again. If tomorrow the broadcasters who lease the roof space of the Sears Tower decided it was cheaper to just use cable or satellite to broadcast their signals, they would take their antennas down off of the roof, and then they would be gone. Perhaps at that time the developers would build permanent spires that resemble the antennas, since we are all used to seeing them in the profile. If so, at that time they would become an official part of the building and count in the height calculations.

I guess that makes sence to me. But I also have to say it is a bit silly that Petronas with its spires are considered to be taller then Sears just because of its spires...

^Theres a difference between spires and antennea.Spires are an intricate part of the overall design (with it it would be incomplete) while antennea are an added feature. (wouldnt matter if removed).I sort of agree with CTBUH. just imagine Chrysler bldg without its spire?. Isnt ironic how Chicagos SPIRE wont have a spire.?;lol and Burj dubai is basically a 818m spire!

ive decided to add the 30 skyscrapers that already over 300m -ie chrysler, petronas, aon, john hancock ect, to diagram, so it should show ALL skyscrapers existing and uc over 300m in the world. That way it will give you an idea what is happening and compare to all bldgs. There are more to add that have recently started so there will be total of about 100.
may take a while. ill let you know when im close.
cheers
