That's what I was referring to, really.

Venture capitalist consortium fronted by a man whose career record sets off alarm bells. Funding from "the Far East". No apparent motive for buying a minor-league football club crippled by debts and facing insurmountable financial and sporting sanctions in the very near future. No real prospect of a return on investment through revival of the existing business.

Seems legit.

Apropos of nothing:

Bud Fox: "Why do you need to wreck this company?"
Gordon Gekko: "Because it's wreckable, all right?"

Similar wavelength then.

I feel the worst of the dirty laundry is still to be aired. Can't wait to read the dual contracts dossier once that investigation is complete. Expulsion from the SPL is a very real possibility (other than the fact the SPL are totally spineless and ineffectual). If that breach is upheld there is no misdemeanour more serious, which is interesting given the statement made in the SFA's document last week.

If we're serious about bidding for Euro 2020, then let's make a decent fist of it this time. The joint Scotland/Ireland Euro 2008 bid was an utter shambles.

The 2012 International Convention on Science, Education
and Medicine in Sport

July 19-24th 2012, SECC Glasgow

The International Olympic Committee (IOC), International Paralympic Committee (IPC), International Federation of Sports Medicine (FIMS) and the International Council of Sport Science and Physical Education (ICSSPE) are proud to announce that their International Convention on Science, Education and Medicine in Sport will take place in Glasgow just before the Opening Ceremonies for the 2012 Olympic Games.

ICSEMIS replaces and expands the scope of the former four-yearly Congresses that were so familiar to many scientists and academics in sport. The first ICSEMIS was held in 2008 in Guangzhou, China. In 2012, as hosts of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, the UK will host the second ICSEMIS (www.icsemis2012.com ) at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre in Glasgow, Scotland.

Boffins to bring city £5m boost

Sports scientists from around the world are expected to inject around £5million into the local economy when they jet into Glasgow ahead of the London Olympics.
The cash boost comes as the SECC prepares to host the International Convention on Science, Education and Medicine in Sport for five days in the summer.
Around 3000 delegates will attend the July convention. They represent some of the world's finest scientific minds, experts and policymakers in sport and physical education from across the world.
The convention – previously known as the Pre-Olympic Congress – is jointly organised by the International Olym- pic Committee, International Paralympic Committee, Inter-national Federation of Sports Medicine and the Internat- ional Council of Sport Science and Physical Education

Glasgow has been named as one of the world’s top 10 sporting cities.

The city has moved up two places in the SportBusiness Ultimate Sports City 2012 Awards to number nine and has finished ahead of Olympic cities including Paris, Tokyo, Moscow and Amsterdam.

Number one was awarded to London with Melbourne and Sidney coming in second and third.

Glasgow also retained its position as the number one city in the world in relation to sports marketing and branding.

The results were announced at the SportAccord Convention in Quebec City.

The SportBusiness Ultimate Sports Cities Awards have been held every two years since 2006.

There were 25 cities on the final shortlist based on their history of hosting sporting events.

Cities were selected by an expert judging panel and were ranked using a range of criteria including the number of annual events, events held or won between 2008 and 2016, numbers of federations hosted, the calibre of events currently being bid for, facilities/venues, transport, accommodation, government support, security, legacy, public sports interest, quality of life, marketing and use of social media.

Councillor Gordon Matheson, leader of Glasgow City Council and chair of Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, said: "Glasgow’s reputation as a world leader in terms of sport is growing year on year thanks to our world-class events programme and investment in facilities such as the stunning new Commonwealth Arena.

"That will only continue as we build towards the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

"To have improved on our 2010 ranking and made the world’s top 10, while retaining our position as the top city in the world when it comes to marketing and branding, is testament to the hard work of our teams across the city and of our national partners.

"We now look forward to continue building Glasgow’s position as one of the best sporting cities in the world.”

Paul Bush OBE, chief operating officer for EventScotland, said: "Glasgow’s placing in the 2012 SportBusiness Ultimate Sport City Awards is testament to the fantastic work going on in the city, and on behalf of EventScotland I would like to congratulate all of our Glasgow partners for this achievement."

Greame Souness in dodgy transfer shocker. I thought that was common knowledge for years?

The real story was the conflict of intrest of the administrators here. These guys are supposed to be acting in the best intrests of the creditors, not their cronies.

As youve seen these past 5 years, with the collapse of the economy, theres NOT a lot of intelligent people around in any job these days.whether it be Banking,The Media,Politics,Business,Lawyers,Architects, etc.Hundreds of them collapsing, like a pack of cards!.
The education system in Scotland/Britain hands out certifictes for Degrees/Diplomas etc to pretend this generation is so intelligent ,that the are very employable, but in reality, there are as thick as shit and unemployable(as you seen on yesterdays news).!

Our Universities are supposed to be factories of intelligence, but in turn, dont have a clue about lots of things e.g.HOW TO RUN AN ECONOMY.if they did,a recession would never happen.!
The lack of communication between Bankers,Politicians,Lawyers fucks the whole system up,because its all about ME,ME,ME and increasing, companys profits(we dont have time to suss people out) and nothing about the general welfare of the country.l(started with Thatcher in 1979).

Morons, yes,Morons, who invest in football clubs and think there are going to make a profit, should immediately be sent to a local hospital for a brain scan.!
Murray tried to sell Rangers for 50 million, but settled for a quid.!(gosh he must be dissappointed),but that, plus his other financial disasters(lost 700 million in past 5 years),are undoubtedly leading to anxiety and fear, that led to selling to a fanny, like Craig White(who knows FA about the world of football!),He decides who the administrators are.!Where the F..K,does that law come from.?

This is the era of technology, with mobile phones, internet,DNA, so every activity,in every business can be tracked.!Unfortunately, diddies like Murray and Whyte havent seemed to work this out yet.!

Corruption is the cancer of society, but our politicians are to scared to do anything about it,incase it screws the economy up even more.!

Gmacruyff, I reckon there's not many university students or graduates from the current generation running these large scale businesses you proclaim about. I think your pushing the blame in the wrong direction there.

This appears to be a lot of what Graham Spiers would call "whataboutery". It's also disingenuous towards the many professional lawyers, architects, businessmen etc... who's well established businesses have failed in recent years due to a global financial crisis. To suggest these people are not intelligent is highly offensive and displays a lack of awareness to the reality.

The Rangers case appears to be purely driven by greed on many different levels. It's a shame really, but The fans better be prepared for an unprecedented punishment.

I won't be able to see this programme for a while, but judging by Twitter - where the sick abuse from the lunatic fringe of Rangers fans has shifted from Channel 4's Alex Thomson to the BBC's Mark Daly - it must have done its job well.

The hardcore fans demand answers about what's happened to their football club, then encourage the beating of any journalist (or Orwell Prize-winning blogger) who tries to offer them. Strange world, this.

Recessions are hardly a new phenomenon; nor is the current one exactly unique to Scotland.
