Well, those plans need to be cancelled. I don't feel like arguing with you on this subject. Try and say something that will scare me away from this thread altogether. Now about the Bayer skyscraper, a plain billboard is just one way that a good skyscraper can be abused. Just look at One Times Square. It is covered up in several billboards, but I don't think its being abused. Both of the structures have no use at all. The first three floors of One Times Square have shops opening and closing all the time. And a productive use cannot be found for the Bayer building.

Why would NIMBY's reject plans to renovate an ABANDONED building next to theirs? Did they list any reasons? It seems renovating an abandoned property would not only make the neighborhood that much better, but would probably do wonders for their property values... |

The neigbours are living in residential apartmentbuilding west of the TBR.
They are afraid that a higher tower will take their sun away in the morning (really!) In our country, NIMBY's are strong, very strong....sadly anough... |

Last reaction (I promise
) and off topic: There is a green space on that site. It will remain there. But nowadays this park is mostly abandoned, because there are no people living in this area. So when they built the residential flats along the park, it will be much more lively. On the other side of the Finance Tower, there's a very nice and bigger park called the botanic: ![]() About 200 meter from the site there's the well known 'central' Waranda-park: ![]() Or you can take the tram, the metro or cycle to one of the 100 Brussels parks and greenspaces. About 50% of the surface is greenspace, which makes Brussels one of the greenest capitals in Europe (official data!). So there's no need for extra greenspaces in the city. Brussels needs more houses and flats, because of its expending population. And that's exactly what they are gonna do on this abandoned site! |

The two lowrises I suggested would contain offices and will be rectangular and the greenspace would be remodelled.

Great development plans! I suppose those building is an abandoned grainsilo? Quote:
Brussels needs more apartments to house the 150.000 inhabitants expected in the next years. Why don't they just finish this building inside and finish it? |

Cause 1)it's Greece 2) Nobody cares 3) Skyscrapers were illegalized in the early 80s so no building over 27 meters is build since.

Strange... Are skyscrapers really illegal or are you just cynic about the urban policy in Greece? And why does nobody care? Someone has put a lot of money in this project... |

The municipality owns it for decades, they just left it like that for no reason, and yes there is a 30 meters limit (later reduced to 27 meters) in height for all structures 30 years now. Skyscrapers are uneconomical, harmful to the environment, the landscape and represent the evil capitalism that wants to suck our blood, a monument to the foul ways of humankind.

Hotel Bristol IN Sarajevo stood abandoned since the war ended in 1995, just recently renovation has started on the hotel, it will be 4 stars. After the war it was badly damaged and finally its being renovated.
During its Abandoned Era ![]() ![]() Several years ago renovation started but was shortly stopped, I believe due to complications in the ownership of the building. ![]() here are some renovation pics ![]() ![]() Future Look
