what was the reason for those two buildings being out of use in the first place? just the fact that they were dated?

they look decent enough and their location looks pretty superb! wouldn't think it would take that much to freshen them up

14 stories, 36 acres. 27 Million Bricks, 30,000 panes of glass. A small section is used on the ground floor as a weekly Market. There were plans in 2007 for redevelopment, yet nothing has materialised thus far. Such a daunting building to be near.
That building, depending on location, would be prime for being converted into lofts! Were the plans in 2007 to make this building into residential or keep it as some sort of commercial building?

Donno if posted before but:

The “Wiezowiec Naczelna Organizacja Techniczna”, located in the polish city of Cracovia, wasn’t really completly finished due to economical reasons. In 1981, the building works were stopped, leaving an unfinished structure, of 91 meters and 24 floors. This thing made that the people in the city called this project “Szkieletor”

The years has passed and some investors have been interested in this structure recovering, but it’s difficult legal status, and the big damages, have disheartened to this idea.

The Sterick Building in Memphis (built in 1928) has been left vacant since the early 1980s. It is rumoured to be the perfect candidate for residential conversion, which has some advantages and disadvantages.

that building is Awesome, unique and most of all a relic

wouldn't that kind of structure be more suitable for a chain hotel like Radisson, Astoria etc.?

how many cities wished they had such a grand building

The building looks like a hotel, but was originally built as an office building. residential conversion is considered for the building instead of hotel use.

It is on Memphis's list of "Top Cen Center City Redevelopment sites" and it has met the following criteria:
* A site that is important to the health and vitality of its neighborhood and of Memphis.
* A site that currently has no solid redevelopment plans on the board.
* A site with architecture significant in the history of Memphis.
* A site where redevelopment is seen as a catalyst for future improvements.

Its height and views of the mississippi River are advantages. The large size of the property, the height of the floor plates, lack of adequate duct work, environmental issues, and the need to bring the building up to current seismic standards are disadvantages.

The building is really abandoned. Cost over two - three BILLION dollars to get this far, and the interior is completely unfinished, as is the last couple stories. Pigeons now have a nice home - literally.

It would cost about another couple billion to finish the interior - so there are no plans to do anything with it for a long time.

I worked for the Architecture firm that did this one. No plans to do anything. Only thing done a couple months ago was to put a barrier around the top of the elevator shafts to prevent further water damage.

Bucharest Tower Center (23 floors, 107 m) in Bucharest, Romania is finished since december 2008 but it haven't been opened due to a lawsuit between Tower Center International (the owner) and Alpha Bank (the main tenant).

Good-looking building, should open it right away if hindering lawsuits are all cleared up.

I just recently read about an abandoned skyscraper in Venezuela that's been taken over by squatters and turned into a self-managed community. They're calling it "the world's tallest shanty town". Here's the link:

Berlin

The Steglitzer Kreisel, a office building wich is abandoned since 2007,
because it is contaminated with asbestos:

That pic seems to be older than 2007..
No decision yet what will happen with it, but I think it is going to be selled and renovated in the near future.

JAKA Tower also known as CHAKA (meaning: UGLY) Tower, a casualty of the 1997 Asian financial crisis. This is the only unfinished/abandoned tower along Ayala Avenue, Makati *sigh*. Every time I see this building, it makes me really want to nuke it.
