Warszawa - Łódź ERTMS contract awarded
12 Mar 2014

POLAND: Infrastructure manager PKP PLK has awarded a Thales-led consortium a €100m contract to install GSM-R and ETCS Level 2 on the Warszawa Zachodnia - Koluszki - Łódź Widzew route.

The contract covers around 125 route-km and includes the design and construction of a control centre in Skierniewice. The project will enable maximum speeds on the route to be increased to 160 km/h for passenger trains and 120 km/h for freight trains.

Announcing the contract on March 12, Thales said that this was its fourth ETCS order in Poland, where it has now deployed ETCS on 700 km of the network and GSM-R on 500 km.

I think the only part of Tri-city SKM that we can consider built before WW2 is original rolling stock.

Is it a so-called 'Integrated centre of communication' with the train station, bus station and shopping center, a solution widely used in Poland - especially with an enormous mall and a small station like in Poznan - .

I know this SKM Torjmiesto, it's a nice line :-)
Is it true that this second line is actually reconstruction and upgrade of an old line from the main line Gdansk-Gdynia to cross of the expressway S6, and from there a new construction to the airport? Will it serve mainly the airport or are there important neighborhoods alongside the line? I see there's a largo shopping center at the expressway that will be served by a nerw train stop.
What kind of frequency is expected in this new line? When is the opening expected?

Evrything that you said is true, but PKM is going to connect with existing Gdtnia - Kościerzyna line few kilometers after approaching the airport, so it will serve southbounds of Gdańsk and Gdynia. There will be 9 stops in Gdańsk and 4 in Gdynia.
Here you can get maps of this railway: http://www.pkm-sa.pl/glowna/o-projekcie/mapy/
Planning is now scheduled for Q2 2015, but they are actually bulding faster than schedule.

The Tri-City will have a very nice, quite extensive S-bahn once this is finished.
