The old station of Sosnowiec Maczki will be used as a didactic center for public transport. PKP will train engineers and other specialists. The building will be renovated.

The Warsaw-Vienna Railway. This station is located on the former border with the Austrian Empire
Quote:
After the construction of the Warsaw - Vienna railway line in the years 1839-1848, a border station building under the design of a well-known architect E. Marconi was erected. On the ground-floor of the southern and the middle part of the building there are rooms with a lavish architectural decor of the walls and ceilings in the form of molded cornices, stuccoes, pilasters and cast-iron columns. The cast-iron columns also support the platform covers on each side of the station.

This impressive, former border station building, a property of the Polish State Railways, has been actually unused for the last few years.
The once splendid interiors are nowadays unused and neglected, and in bad technical condition.
it's good that station building will be renovated, but too bad that few years ago the former tsarist barracks have been destroyed and some time ago they also demolished magnificent customs house (great building with special rooms/apartments for russian royal family)

Customs house - then and now photo:

only pile of rubble was left

After two years, the connection between Poznan and Frankfurt Oder has been reintroduced. DB Regio AG's trains will leave two times a day from Poznan and Frankfurt Oder, the journey taking 2:20 hours and having several steps in between.

Polish PKP Cargo to invest $64 mln on cross-border locomotives

Aug 19 (Reuters) - Poland's PKP Cargo, the European Union's No.2 rail cargo operator by tonnage transported, is to invest up to 200 million zlotys ($64 million) on 10 locomotives to strengthen its position in neighbouring countries.

The company, controlled by Poland's state-run railways operator PKP, wants to double its fleet of multi-system locomotives able to operate in different countries and said the new engines will be delivered in 2016 and 2017.

PKP Cargo, which will be holding a tender for the contract, currently operates 10 multi-system locomotives made by Siemens and Bombardier, in addition to its 1,200 other locomotives.

The gradual economic revival in some parts of Europe has improved demand for transport services and helped to lift PKP Cargo's first-quarter net profit to almost 58 million zlotys.

That looks interesting.... but what is it? Looks like a train on a tramline, but no overhead cables?
