Those built-in lifts for people in wheelchairs are just utterly stupid. It takes so much time to get them in place that almost every time a handicaped person wants to get on board, the train is delayed because of it. ÖBB went the same direction. Earlier a lift at the platform was used, which went quick and easy, whereas now it takes forever to get the job done.

If you have such a lift at every station it is indeed a much better option.
But what if such person wants to get of at a minor station which is not equipped with a lift?

Long distance trains won't stop there anyway and regional trains increasingly have level access. In the case of Austria I am also pretty sure that every manned station has such lifts.

In Austria - maybe, but in Poland not every station has them.
I see your point of course, but I just think that on-board lifts are a more flexible solution.

Unfortunately Polish railways have a long way to go to become disabled-friendly. Not so long ago there was a story of a disabled girl from Nowy Tomyśl, who needs to notify the railways 24h in advance every time she wants to take the train. The stairs to the platform are not equipped with a lift and to use a grade crossing the staff need to open it for her. And to do that they first need to travel 50 km. Ridiculous and sad, but true.
