Demolishing was one of the concepts of rebuilding Central Station before euro2012 in Poland but eventually (thanks God!) that unwise idea was quit for good.

It's interesting, how they managed to keep classic Austrian terminal side covered platform despite introducing semi-high platforms. In Austria (or at least in Styria) I saw most of them closed in favour of new island platforms.

Thanks God? Central Station in Warsaw is ugly as hell, I wouldn't have anything against razing it off and building completely new thing.

It wasn't ugly but dirty and it looks perfectly fine now. Also have in mind that this "new thing" would be probably dwarfed by some huge commercial project around it so normal people wouldn't get anything from this.

Warsaw Central Station is actually a very nice building architecturally and functionally. General neglect and not integrating into its surroundings were it's downfall. But since the general lifting before Euro two years ago the upkeep has been much better. It still needs help with integrating it into the surrounding urban fabric but that's a never-ending battle.

Agree. Central Station is a pretty decent piece of architecture. It was neglected for years, that is why it turned into ugly place. Just cleaning and removing little stinky places selling food before Euro2012 made this place nice again. The other issue is surrounding -empty lots on two sides of station building. That is a problem with a center of Warsaw generally. This city in some parts was never rebuild from damages of IIWW. Central Station is like an island on the sea. Southern side was build up in late 80's (high-rise Hotel Marriott). On north side Zlote tarasy - big shopping mall was build in early 2000. Still there are a huge empty lots on east and west side of the station...

I remember - when majority of Poles thought the same way as you, so a few years ago - article in Swiss newspaper which was full of wonder that in Poland it's such a hated building, when it's actually piece of very decent architecture, even outstanding.

Then I wasn't sure if Swiss were right, but now I am. Warsaw Central Station should be only cleaned, more and more, but nothing different. It suits like nothing to still modernized downtown, by style and functionality. Became an icon and is perhaps most known example of brutalism in Warsaw. Thank god 20th century styles became respectable in Europe, maybe excluding UK. History shows that deciding of replacing something hated only because of it's current look is the worst - Katowice station for example; even better that Warsaw, with shitty "bus station" outside, replaced by mall with small station sticked... Now majority cries that it should stay, but a few years ago they were saying: demolish, demolish, everything might be better than that shit!

It's obligatory to think twice at least before destroying something only because current emotions.

Not exactly, but has significant brutal features. As for its fame might be seen as one of most popular examples of brutalism in Warsaw.

Maybe after some hard modernization this building could look good, it may have some potential, but it's "covered" with poor ideas and materials.

Nothing hard to do with it. Its shape should be kept! But potencial indeed is covered, also behind adverts.

Jak widać, Kraków się rozwija w kontekście połączenia kolejowego z lotniskiem, na to samo czekam we Wrocławiu.

It's actually nothing to be proud of. The station built in mid-century modern style was originally much greater than what we have now, but was simply totally neglected, as almost each buiding in that style in Poland.

It's how it originally looked:

And before there was such a station in Lissa/Leszno:

In my opinion it looks very well. Times of big stations for small cities like 65.000 Leszno are over. Beside, it wasn't that much bigger judging from pictures above.

During communism even modern recently completed buildings looked old and tired.
