Will anything be done with Linia Hutnicza Szerokotorowa? No sense to leave it rust, is there? About 200 km of new rail if it is converted to normal width or/and renovated.

But what exactly do you mean? LHS is in its best condition ever, it is regularly repaired and upgraded for example by new passing loops, the poorly made under structures were also replaced. Company is constantly upgrading its M62 main line locomotive fleet by installing modern engines. As for commodity it mostly hauls iron ore from mines in Ukraine to steel mill in Dąbrowa Górnicza where elimination of break of gauge gives much advantage. In the longer term construction of dynamic passing loops is envisaged and eventually double tracking so there isn’t anything urgent that needs to be done with this line – it commercially functions just fine.

EU funding. EU gave money for the trains servicing exactly these routes and not other ones.

I may be wrong, but as far as I know, single ones are used in the places, where they are closed automatically - so that when they starts to close and there is a car between them (which shouldn't get there since the red light and the sound signals start some time before the barriers begin to close, but there is plenty of such idiots), the car is still able to escape. They barriers closing the whole width of the road are using only on the level crossings operated manually by a human.

The main problem with level crossing in Poland is, I think, that they often close really a lot of time before the train crosses the road. It can be even a minute or more. Drivers get annoyed by such a long waiting, and it leads to that they really want to get to the other side before the barrier closes, even if it has already started closing. Which, consequently, leads to accidents. Or they are overpassing such half-barriers as in the movie.

By the way, there is still lots of manually operated level crossing barriers in Poland.

The Pesa Sundeck has been delivered to the Mazovian railways. The company had ordered 2 locomotives and 20 wagons. It's the first double-deck train to be completely made in Poland.

Polish passengers returning to rail transport

Poland's largest long-distance train operator, PKP Intercity, said on Wednesday it carried 31.2 million passengers in 2015, 5.6 million more than the previous year.

Company chairman Jacek Leonkiewicz told reporters: “We were able to revert the trend [of decreasing passengers] which has been present for the past few years.”

High-speed Pendolino trains have carried 3,600,000 passengers in Poland in the first year after they were introduced, achieving a 96 percent punctuality rate, Leonkiewicz said.

He added that the company made a PLN 1.53 billion (EUR 340 million) profit in the first 11 months of 2015, a year-on-year increase of 22 percent. (ua/pk)

No, it is just an effect of "Beeching axle" style management by Krzysztof Celiński. He thought that with cutting offer by 20% he will remain all customers while the result was quite the opposite. This isn't his first such destructive move as on 3 April 2000 he cut rail services on 1028 km of lines in Poland some of which were recently reintroduced into service... .
