A small creature, about the size of a sheep. it is bright orange, and runs around the streets of Dubai eating peoples money whilst they are stuck in traffic jams.

hmmmmmm i am not living in Dubai, but after reading all those infos on the website, i would say i am against the Salik......there is some irony salik means open, open for what taking the money from people.......I mean if you live in Deira and you will go shopping to the MOE you have to pay 16DRH´s toll........or do you pay the toll once you go through a """toll gate"" for a whole day?

And what is with visitors that are renting cars to drive through the city, how do they pay the salik?

each time you pass under it you get charged 4 dhs, maximum of going under a gate 4 times, but we know taxis do it anyway for a boost in the fair

I thought Salik had a AED 24 ceiling per day???

Going from Deira to MOE you don't pay SALIK, unless you think driving at Garhoud Bridge is to die for and worth the cost. MOE is before the Salik gate.

If you rent a car, they will retrieve the statement from Salik website for the period you had the car and will include the amount in the final bill (actually they might charge a 25% extra fee)

No, you just pay a small fee for the car registration renewal every year.

They are talking about increasing the fees though, together with parking charges and fuel prices.

There will be 3 once the new gates are installed, if you plan to drive over Maktoum br. or the Floating br. .... Ofcourse, you can avoid those and then you will just have 2 - One at Al Barsha and one at Safa Park.

Interchange 1 on Emirates Road is getting a Salik Gate as well....

These are the new gates in the pipeline....

1) Safa Park (Interchange 2, SZR)
2) The Floating Bridge
3) Al Maktoum Bridge
4) Interchange 1 on Emirates Road

So that means even if you pay at Al Barsha, you will still be charged on Safa?

BTW there is a rig putting a pile in the space between 2 SZR directions, just in front of Falcon Tower. There will be neither the Metro Station overhead pedestrian bridge nor a new overpass so maybe that will be the location of the new gate, just before the future Business Bay Interchange (1.5)

What they realy need to do is create a zone/ road which you pay to use every time you enter it.

not randomly charge people for using random bits of random roads.
