Qatar, Host Nation of 2011 Asian Cup
Qatar bids to host 2011 Asian Cup !!! Kuala lumpur • Qatar yesterday formally submitted a bid to host the 2011 Asian Cup, two days before the deadline expires. India and Iran have also expressed an interest in holding the event but have yet to hand over any bid documents, the Asian Football Confederation said. Qatar, which successfully held the Asian Games in Doha in December last year, has played host to the Asian Cup once before, in 1988 when it was won by Saudi Arabia. “We worked hard along with the relevant ministries to complete the requirements,” said Qatar Football Association General Secretary Saud Al Mohannadi. A final decision will be made on July 29. Great move by Qatar |

Qatar Only Candidate For 2011 Asian Cup
Qatar are the only nation to have formally submitted their bid to host the 2011 Asian Cup. Of the original trio that expressed interest in hosting the event, India withdrew from proceedings and Iran missed the final deadline to submit their proposals to the Asian Football Confederation. It is not all done and dusted however as the Gulf State must show that it can meet all the requirements necessary. If the AFC is not satisfied then the whole process will restart. The final decision will be taken on July 28, a day before the final of the 2007 version takes place in Jakarta. http://www.goal.com/en-us/Articolo.a...enutoId=336231

President of AFC confident of Qatar bid to host the 2011 Asian Cup
Mohamed Bin Hammam, president of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), showed confidence in Qatar's bid for the 2011 Asian Cup at a press conference on Friday. India and Iran had expressed their will to host the 2011 edition of the biggest soccer tournament within the continent, but dropped before the deadline requested by the AFC and made Qatar the only candidate for the bid. Hammam stressed that the selection process could be thrown open again if the Executive Committee is not satisfied with Qatar's bidding. "If the Executive Committee is not happy with Qatar's bid on July 29 then we will throw it open again, but so far we are happy. "If the Executive Committee is not happy with the presentation then Qatar should be hosts, or if the Executive Committee has doubts or are not happy with Qatar's bid, then we will have no alternative but to open up to other countries to bid. "I do believe that Qatar will pass on July 29." that means 21 days left to decide if Qatar will host or another bid will come |

Qatar to host 2011 AFC Asian Cup
![]() JAKARTA – The Asian Football Confederation announced on Sunday that the next edition of the AFC Asian Cup in 2011 will be hosted by Qatar. AFC president Mohamed Bin Hammam confirmed that the event would be played in the Gulf state following the organisation’s executive committee meeting in the Indonesian capital of Jakarta, the venue for this year’s Asian Cup final. Qatar were the sole bidders for the event following the withdrawal of a bid by India and the Iran Football Federation’s failure to submit the official bidding documents. However, the AFC said that they were impressed by the high quality of the Qatari bid and are confident of the country’s ability to host the Asian continent’s biggest international football tournament. “Because of the high standards and criteria we are applying for any tournament, it is not possible for every country to host the AFC Asian Cup,” said Hammam. “From tournament to tournament, the standards will continue to go higher and higher and it is up to the host country to ensure that all the measures are in place to host a successful event. “We need to organise our tournaments in the best environment, we have to ensure that the teams have the best facilities available and that there is good access for fans to come and watch the games. “These are the sorts of things that a host country must provide.” The AFC president admitted that Australia had also been interested in applying to host the 2011 event. “Australia were very interested in submitting a bid but due to the rotation of the event, it was decided that the candidates for the 2011 competition would be restricted to the South and Central and West Asian regions,” he said. Hammam also suggested that the event is likely to take place in January due to concerns about the weather in the Middle East during the summer months. “Immediately after this meeting, we will have to establish an organising committee for the 2011 tournament to decide on these matters but the indication is that it should be played in January,” he said. “On the FIFA calendar, the confederations can host their events in January or July, but as July is the hot season in the Middle East, the tournament cannot be played then.” It is the second time that Qatar has been selected to stage the tournament following its hosting of the 1988 tournament. As a Qatari himself, Hammam was naturally delighted with the decision. “Qatar is my home and maybe this will give me a reason to spend more of my time there,” he said. “Hopefully it will be a successful tournament.” Last edited by Qatar Son 333; July 29th, 2007 at 01:10 PM. |

Yeah this is official, this will be the opportunity for Qatar to make a great performance, I was really disappointed about how this year Asian Cup ended up, come on the UAE wasn't much of a big step, qualification was close! This is too frustrating! And 2011..by this time Khalfan is the new Ronaldinho

Qatar is officially the host of the 2011 Asian Cup
Qatar has been awarded the hosting rights for the 2011 Asian Cup, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) announced on Sunday. JAKARTA (Reuters) - Qatar has been confirmed as the host nation for the 2011 Asian Cup, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) announced on Sunday. The Gulf state was the only country to submit a formal bid to host the event but had to satisfy the AFC of their ability to stage the tournament before being confirmed as hosts. India and Iran had initially indicated they would bid but pulled out before the final deadline in May. Under the AFC's rotation policy, only countries from West Asia were allowed to bid but the AFC said it would have opened the bidding process had Qatar's proposal failed to meet the required standards. "I think it will be a great tournament," AFC President Mohamed Bin Hammam, who is from Qatar, told a news conference. "The Asian Cup from now on will be different from what we've seen in the past, in terms of organisation, in terms of popularity and in terms of standard. This is my promise to you." Qatar hosted the Asian Cup in 1988 and joins Iran (1968 and 1976) as the only countries to stage the event on more than one occasion. Bin Hammam said the final details of the 2011 event were still being finalised but it was likely the tournament would be staged in January. The timing of the event is likely to clash with some national leagues, including the English Premier League, but Bin Hammam said he was confident all the teams would have their best players available because January was one of two windows provided by soccer's world governing body FIFA for continental championships. "The other window is July but that is the hot season in Qatar so it cannot be held at that time of year," he said. "At the moment the indications are that this competition should be organised in January. "We have been protected by the international window so all our players will be released." |

Qatar Building US$20 Mln Underground Stadium For 2011 Asian Cup
October 26, 2007 00:18 AM DOHA, Oct 25 (Bernama) -- Construction work has started on the world's first underground stadium which Qatar is building for the 2011 Asian Cup football tournament. The US$20 million all-weather stadium resembles an open laptop computer and covers an area of 200,000 square meters. According to Dr Athanasios Batsilas, who is Qatar Football Association technical director, the new stadium was slated for completion in 2009 and would be put to use in 2010. "You won't not see any light towers around this new stadium. This is the unique part of this wonderful project. However, we shall have lights integrated inside the stadium which can house around 10,000 to 11,000 people," Dr Batsilas was quoted as saying in an interview with local daily The Peninsula. "We'll have the latest audio and video technology inside the stadium. The public will have easy access to the stadium from seven roads leading into the underground car park," Batsilas added. Doha, host of the 15th Asian Games in December 2006, is currently home to the world's largest indoor sports facility -- the Aspire Dome which is part of the sprawling 240ha Aspire Zone which was known as the Doha Sports City during the Games. In July, the Asian Football Confederation awarded Qatar the rights to host the 2011 Asian Cup, making the tiny Gulf state only the second country other than Iran to host the tournament for a second time. Qatar first hosted the Asian Cup in 1988. The new stadium is fuelling talk of a bid to host the 2018 Fifa World Cup Finals, amid the euphoria of Qatar's ambitious "Doha 2016" campaign for the rights to host the 2016 Olympics and Paralympics. -- BERNAMA |
