A giant ribbed dildo. No just kidding, it's not so bad. The white bits seem to be on every other floor so there might be a lot of units without bathrooms...

Aiming high

Piccadilly’s skyline is changing. The next few years will see things move onwards and upwards as various developments puncture the sky and alter the face of the area.

The latest addition to the area will be Time and Tide’s ‘Gravity’, a £63 million mixed use development that will play a key role in the regeneration of Manchester’s Eastern Gateway.

With a 29 storey tower and a complementary 6 storey building on the corner of Store Street and Great Ancoats Street, the development will incorporate 330 residential units along with over 1100 square metres of retail and residential space.

“The height and appearance of the Store Street tower have been calculated to balance the prominence of the proposed Islington Wharf on the east side of Store Street and the Inacity Tower, adjacent to Piccadilly Station”, said Hoda Nobakhti, from architects Austin Smith Lord. “By taking the future appearance of the area into account we have designed a structure that complements other proposed key developments and brings cohesion to the Eastern skyline.”

The Piccadilly Partnership has welcomed the news as an important element in its wider vision for the area.

“Piccadilly is growing quickly and investment such as this will be critical to the regeneration of the Piccadilly 'Waterside' area and the ongoing revitalisation of the wider district. Major plans are underway throughout the quarter that will radically change and enliven this part of Manchester, whilst establishing it firmly within the heart of the City. Time and Tide's high quality proposal for this important site will make a significant contribution to this effort.”

Apartments will be from £117,000.

Thanks sleepyone.

I'm really not sure about this. Those white boxes are very odd and a strange colour against the glass too. Simpson's dot dash style works because it's a subtle change in colour. These - as jon aptly said, just look wrong.
It looks extremely tacky and i agree with Architecty that it doesn't sit right. The image is crap too, which doesn't help.

Although It might help to see it from the ILVA side.

I’m still keen on it, bottom isn’t great but I think it’s a slightly odd render that makes the boxes look peculiar when they would actually look pretty dam cool!

For one the render model has them shining exactly the same as the glass at the top left, but looking matt on the bottom right (but still being more reflective than the glass, when I get the impression they are not made of glass). Its a confusing image; but form wise I think it’s a good’un. Few more views and better worked up CAD should alay the fears.

Has this development actually been submitted for planning? I can no trace of it on MCC's website and there is no planning application number to be found within this thread.

I like this too. Can't imagine the city fathers (or mothers) refusing this.

Associated documents are online.

There doesn't seem to be any proper renders, apart from the one's we've already seen.

BTW, it's round.(Birmingham)

There's plenty of renders within the Access Statement jrb. Big document though - 22Mb.

Has a nice shape to it this one and some quality cladding too. Still feels slightly odd spot on Great Ancoats St for a tower of this size but hey, looks like there will be plenty of large buildings around here before long and it does sit on the same street as Eastgate all be it at the opposite end.

The elevations look much better than the renders.
If the materials were as subtle as the elevations suggest as apposed to the renders i may be convinced.
Green glass and grey cladding i can live with (not the blue and white of the render) and the plan form is quite cool aswell - not round as jerbil suggests but a sort of Mario Cart like race track. Once again the renders didnt do it justice.
May change my opinion on this.

Cheers Sleeps. My new(arf) Sky wireless broadband couldn't/can't cope with these large PDF files.

Not keen on the top of the tower.

If the white was replaced with black this would look fab. Has a tacky look to it at the mo.. Diggin the shape and the street scheme though.

Albany - Eastgate - Gravity - Islington

What a nice cluster that would be. Shame Albany are useless.
