That's because they're pouring and if they do the pouring right on the sand without plastic the sand will absorb moisture from the concrete making it drie too quickly and then it becomes brittle.

Altin, I won't even reply to your useless comment

I may be wrong for this site but what i saw with the last picture is that things had, let's say apparently, not changed in 3 months.

Maybe it's a mistake because after all, I'm not a civil engineer, but it's also possible to believe that Damac has only posted an official picture now that things are really started.

Anyway, PT, thank you very much. YOUR explanations are really useful. If trucks are beginning to come to the working site, it will be really interesting to watch

If ir makes you feel better, it was mostly directed at the other guy .... but you too I admit.

As for the tower, the current phase is usually a slow one, even on fast-paced projects, but yes, this one has been on the slow side. BTW, I am not a civil enginer and neither is PT.

Possibly to avoid premature dehydration of concrete, by retaining the moisture under the foil.

Talking of "clueless":

Parsonsnose and Flo Flo:
You guys both make good points. The fella who criticised you guys (Altind) knows about skyscrapers but it appears sadly 'notsomuch' about Dubai developers bs..

Like others, this project is loooooooong overdue, and the developers spin & bs has been relentless.

Of course I'm clueless about Dubai developers. I don't live in town, I haven't been on this forum long enough to know, I haven't taken thiusands of construction updates over the years to whitness ..... I wasn't even the first ever forumer to report about this tower when first planned

That's not what I think and I would never say that.

Anyway, what I suggest now is: Incident finished and watch the progress of the working site

Like most forums on the worldwideweb, there's usually one or two VI's at work. No one really knows who some forumers really are/ who they work for..

5 years ago they were saying things along the lines of 'hooray, work starting'. They were saying similar things 4,3,2,1 years ago. Will they be saying similar things in 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,10,20,100 etc years time while they hang on to investors money, most of whom may have passed away with old age – eg: 'year 2032 -hooray work well underway now / this tower will be rising soon, yawn'...

So, I gather you are a investor in this tower then ..... so much for skyscraper enthusiasts allegedly having VI's, while the accuser is guilty himself

Wakey, wakey. Are you kidding? ;-) Almost everyone who writes or even reads on any forum has some vested interest in the subject matter that that forum is about.

Like it or not there are many people on this SSC forum who also bought property in Dubai. A few were lucky, majority ripped off. I am aware you purport not to like the property purchaser types, whether that be for investment or for a home for themselves and their family.

When I use the term VI, I meant not just the words that those initials literally mean, but meant what is genuinely meant by the term 'VI' on internet forums – ie some who manipulates / steers discussion to create a false reality.

Not saying you are one, but there seems to be several on SSC..

can you back this up with numbers please?

in the marina, if we look at all of the launched developments, the big majority are above launch prices now.

e.g. the 40 JBR towers are 3 times the off-plan price today. many many foreign investors made millions there.

so I would say the majority were lucky, a few ripped off. like anywhere else when there is a lot of money to be made. feel free to prove me wrong with factual numbers for all of Dubai.
