Since it seemed unfair to single out one or two teams to have a thread for discussion, I decided to rename the thread. Now, on top of talking about the Sabres and Flyers, you can also talk about other hockey teams in the Northeast. You can also talk about college football, the NBA, the NFL, and so on in here as well.

Well, to clarify I don't watch games not because they [the Bills, I've never watched college football] suck, because I'll still watch and support lousy team. I just take issue with watching 3 hours of assinine beer and truck commercials (subliminal advertising - drink and drive?) with a little football interspersed between.

Actually, was it DirecTV that's offering on it's premium NFL package a 30 minute replay of every game, showing every play? That sounds right up my alley (though I'd never pay for it) by cutting out commercials and the 40 seconds between all plays where they just all stand around scratching their "nether regions".

this is pretty sad... but I think Buffalo might be the best Division I college football program in the state of New York right now... oh, how the Orangemen have fallen

My gf went to Syracuse so she usually jokes about them all the time. Not surprising that something shitty is the best this state has to offer; actually it's a decent microcosm of the state as a whole vs. the rest of the country.

Just saw the replay of that helmet-to-helmet hit on Kevin Everett. That has to suck like nothing else. Absolutely sick, hopefully it wasn't intentional (though it's pretty difficult to do it inadvertantly). Of course if it was, I have full confidence that the NFL will handle it appropriately (unlike the NHL with filthy hits) as well as whoever made the hit has to live with that for the rest of their lives.

The NY Mets have the best record in the National League right now.

I was hoping that the Phils would give the Mets a run for the division title after that sweep, but alas, the Phils do what they do best, which is stink it up when people get excited again (only to start winning when people get tired of the losing). I don't expect the Phillies to do much in the series at Shea this weekend. I'm expecting the Mets to win 2 or all 3 games.

The hit clearly wasn't intentional. Edwards was going for the tackle on Domenik Hixon, who was returning the kickoff and had possession of the ball. Edwards simply lowered himself too much and took too much of an impact when Hixon braced himself for the tackle.

Yeah, that's what I read shortly after. The replay as they showed it on TV happened too quickly to really tell and honestly that's not something I'd ever want to see happen to anybody (well, maybe Darcy Tucker or Chris Neil).

They said it was actually a pretty textbook tackle. Too bad, I guess. I was wondering why a special teamer would get caught with his head down - ironically on a day when Steve Tasker was inducted into the "Wall of Fame".

Unfortunately, the Mets are always left in the shadows here. Even if they win, the media hardly gives any coverage on them as they do with the Yankees. In reality, it is very easy to be a Yankees fan. The reason is mainly for the fact that they always seem to win and can afford the best players. I wouldn't be surprised if I will be seeing more coverage on how the Yankees will be spending their vacation than the Mets being on their way to the World Series.

Please tell me that isn't actually during a game. I thought Tampa was a bad expansion market (what, with all those retirees and half of the Yankees organization being based there).

Wow. That's....

Is embarrassing or even disgraceful an appropriate adjective?

Geesh, even some bowling games probably have a bigger audience.

I do sort of feel sorry for anybody who is a true Marlins fan. That team has been so mismanaged and gutted so many times, I suppose it should come as no surprise.

The Marlins have been gutted a few times but definitely not mismanaged. Any of the other 29 teams would love to have their 2 World Series titles.

The Phillies are the definition of mismanagement.
