Those signs are ugly. Brown, yellow, white... isn't there a standard?

Brown = touristic signage
Yellow = through signage
White = local signage

Much like Germany.

Having never driven through Germany I wouldn't know, but those colors really put me off.

Finally they began the construction of the remaining stretch of Corridor X

Serbia Starts Work on Pan-Europe Road
Novi Sad | 11 May 2009 |

Corridor 10 construction site

Serbia's top politicians and business-people were in Novi Sad, Serbia, this Sunday to mark the start of work on the Horgoš-Novi Sad highway.

The new lanes are a part of a larger plan to create a pan-European highway called Corridor 10, which will connect Salzburg to Thessalonica.

The stretch is 20km-long and will be built by two Serbian companies, not Austria's Alpine Porr consortium, as first reported, which has now launched international arbitration against the Serbian state for not finalising the contract.

The two Serbian firms are Putevi Beograd and Putevi Užice, which have been given six months to complete the RSD 1.5billion work.

Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic explained that investing in infrastructure was the best to create jobs during the economic crisis.

He said the Government is making Corridor 10, and other infrastructure work, its main spending priority "in the next four years".

Cvetkovic added that he had secured the support of international financial institutions for projects which will bring jobs in construction, metal and the road industry, and will help small and medium size enterprises.

Infrastructure Minister Milutin Mrkonjic announced that Serbia plans to build a total of 50km of Corridor 10 by the end of this year, with an overall goal of finishing the 170km necessary "as soon as possible".

President Boris Tadic said these projects were "crucial for Serbia's development" and that the completion of Corridor 10 will guide Serbia's future economic development, improving the country's European potential as a key corridor in the Balkans.

Tadic, at the opening ceremony of Corridor 10, expressed his faith that his Government would be the first in recent Serbian history to stay on track and complete the capital projects that it had outlined, planned and initiated.

"The EU is not complete without Serbia in it, Serbia is the central country of south east Europe and that is why, if we do not build roads, we lose not only money, but also the credibility and potential for our country's influence in the world," Tadic told journalists.

The potential benefit to the workforce, the president pointed out, was in the range of 200,000 new jobs for Serbian citizens over the next three years just for the construction of Corridor 10.

What's corridor X? Is that reconstructing Subotica - Beograd to 2x2 lanes? (I believe it's a two lane, undivided express road now)

Horgoš is the most important border check-point between SRB and H. This section should start just north of Novi Sad, I guess - but the total distance is not 20 km. - it's rather 200.

It is clear on this map what are they building, 10km from Novi Sad direction north and from Subotica direction south 10km, it is designated with red color. So 10+10=20km

Entire section Horgos (border with Hungary - Novi Sad) is 110km, with this 20km, 90km will be left to build.
But the road between Novi Sad and Horgos is actually one side of motorway they only have to build one more. The space has been left for that and bridges are wide enough.

Novi Sad - Belgrade is full-profile motorway, except the bridge over Danube near Beška.

Exactly, just that it is Subotica - Novi Sad because from Novi Sad the road turns into regular highway.

Granični prelaz.

Dio autoputa nakon ulaska u Srbiju je osrednjeg kvaliteta.

Nakon par kilometara počinje autoput odličnog kvaliteta, kojim je užitak voziti se.

I know about Kosovo continuing Albania's motorway Durres-Kukes-Morine to Prishtine-merdare... but what about Serbia? Is there any information about that or are there plans already...? Are they going to continue from Merdare to Prokuplje and connecting it to the already existing E75 motorway in Serbia...?

There're no such plans yet, but it's logical move after Merdare-Durres motorway comlete. For now, Serbia is concetrated on finnishing of main North-South axis on Corridor 10 and connection with Bulgaria (Niš-Sofia).

It is 12: 51 . If you do not cheat and respect speed limit, it would need 5-10 min more.

I just say, Serbia has the worst motorways I know and surely some of the worst motorways in whole europe, I can´t understand how the motorway can be ad on the whole lengh Nis - Beograd, on parts the asphalt is so right, that markings can barely be recognized, that´s incredible and the car goes up and down all the time, with a speed more then 100 an unpleasant experience, I hope something will happen soon, but something big, because the current situation is very bad, I would prefer to drive on very smooth nationalroads then on such a rollercoaster. When I went to Bulgaria last time my stomach hurt because of the bumps all the time and I had to take a painkiller, when we entered the extremly smooth nationalroad which has 4 lanes after 10 km all pain was away and I enjoyed the extremly smooth asphalt, I couldn´t feel the surface in the VW Sharan.
