At the same time, first photo update from a ~10km Crvena Reka-Ciflik section of the same motorway, construction of which began just a few months ago. Photos taken by one of our forumers, who's currently employed on the construction of a 500m bridge that's part of this section, after having worked on the recently opened Beska bridge:

Ah, sorry, I didn't understand You. But I have found two articles: „Grci na prevaru dobijaju tendere?” www.mojnovac.rs/vesti/ekonomske_vesti.7.html from 2011-09-12 and „Još ni zemlju nisi otkupili” www.pressonline.rs/sr/vesti/regioni/story/157498 from 2011-04-11. Probably some firms, that participated in the tender, have lodged a protest against the choice Greeks. Or land acquisition hasn't been completed yet (and it is the condition of obtaining a loan from the World Bank), especially in Ribinac, when the motorway should pass the middle of the village.

Every time elections are around the corner, the most dust-covered files from the bottom shelves at Serbia's infrastructure ministry are pulled out...so, once again, we are hearing stories about things like the Fruska Gora tunnel - part of the planned Banat expressway connecting Belgrade-Sid (HR border) & Belgrade-Novi Sad motorways...

The existing road, across the Fruska Gora national park, sees fairly heavy traffic, about 20k AADT - with trucks accounting for almost half.

Construction apparently begins within the next few months - if we are to believe campaigning politicians

In some other news...

I am guessing that could be a banner for January 14.
You are one hour ahead, we haven't seen it yet, in Serbia is still January 13.

edit: yes, it is ...

Happy New Year to you serbian fellows

BTW is it possible for a foreigner to get the ETC to pay the toll? On the webpage of Putevi Srbije the info are really mediocre.

This spring, work will begin on solving the problem of inadequate access roads for Belgrade's Pancevo bridge , which sees some ~150k vehicles daily.

The entire bridge is in general state of disrepair but the start of a serious reconstruction effort, expected to cost tens of millions and take at least two years, is for now on hold, until at least 2014 when the alternative Zemun-Borca bridge is scheduled to be completed.

Current state:

150 000 vehicles on a 4-lane bridge? I think that's about 50 000 too high to be true.

- The intensity of traffic through the Pancevo bridge is extremely high. Daily pass over this bridge about 60,000 vehicles. City Department of Transportation and City Roads took over development of the main project of the tender documents. Deadlines for completion of the bridge rehabilitation will be determined only by the Works Contractor. We expect that the design documentation to be completed by end of 2005. year or early 2006. year. Value of works is estimated between ten and fifteen million. The problem of traffic likely to be resolved by alternate closing one lane and redirecting to another vehicle - says Branko Jocic, Director of the Directorate of Roads.

The second image seems not to be from the same place. A mistake ? Or just an illustration from the opposite side ?

Today's TV report about Pancevo bridge plans:

Some more info & renderings of planned changes, courtesy of Beobuild.rs:

Quote:
The Land Development Agency of Belgrade yesterday officially announced the beginning of a long-awaited expansion project of approach ramps for Pancevo bridge. The project involves upgrading and reconstruction of access ramps in the direction towards Pancevo.

The project of the new traffic regulation in this intersection exists for a very long time. We could say that full access loop at the Pancevo bridge was never completed, creating a direct intersection of vehicles turning left out of Despot Stefan Boulevard towards the Pancevo bridge and vehicles from the Visnjicka street going to the city center. The original design of the bridge has also left the possibility of upgrading two other approaches that would make up a bridge connection on the level of Dunavska street, but even that part of the project was never realized.

Not long ago the theme of the new regulation at Pancevo Bridge was re-actualized and the public was presented with a project that included construction of a new double ramp approach to the bridge from both directions, as well as the expansion of Despot Stefan Boulevard. This traffic addition would prevent traffic jams on the bridge access, it would significantly increase the flow of traffic and safety on one of the riskiest points known for incidents.

The long-awaited works were officially announced yesterday, and according to officials construction will begin in two months. However, at this moment it was announced that City will enter the building of only one side of access loop. It is planned to construct ramp in the direction towards Pancevo, as well as the planned expansion of Despot Stefan Boulevard. The other side of the loop, which should allow easy access to vehicles from the direction of the Pancevo bridge towards Visnjica will still have to wait for better times. Is it a lack of funds or something else, it is unknown.

The new ramp will be mostly constructed on the embankment, so that there will be no need to build a large number of columns, and new access ramp also requires 88 meters of the bridge construction to be replaced. Its length will amount to 200 meters, 7 meters wide, with one transport and one emergency lane. Two new lanes will be constructed in the Boulevard of Despot Stefan, which will help better traffic flow on the access of the new ramps. Boulevard will be extended to a length of 375 meters, and will equiped with new bus stops and additional pedestrian paths.

The investment cost of the entire project is estimated at 247 million dinars, and the deadline for completion is end of 2012.
