Construction of Ljig-Preljina section of motorway to start in March

Belgrade, 5 Feb 2012 – Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Milutin Mrkonjic announced that the construction of the section of Corridor 11 motorway from Ljig to Preljina, 40.2 kilometres long, should start in one month in cooperation with partners from Azerbaijan.

Mrkonjic told Tanjug news agency that the construction of the sections from Obrenovac to Ub and from Lajkovac to Ljig is being negotiated with partners from Turkey and added that these two sections could also start to be built in March.

In case the agreement is not reached with the Turkish partner, Serbia will build these two sections on its own, the Minister underlined.

We will try to start construction works in early March, Mrkonjic said and added that 2012 will be in the sign of Corridor 11 if everything goes as planned.

Brazil ready to invest EUR 300 million in Serbia

BELGRADE - Brazil is ready to invest EUR 300 million through its Development Bank in infrastructural projects in Serbia, it was announced at the meeting between Brazil's economic delegation and Serbian Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Milutin Mrkonjic, held in Belgrade.

Brazilians are above all interested in Corridor 11, the completion of the Belgrade railway network, as well as the construction of tunnels and underground facilities.

The participants of the meeting included, among others, Brazilian Ambassador in Belgrade Alexandre Addor-Neto, and Remo Brunelli Filho, President of the Zagope company for Europe, Brazil's third largest construction company with an annual turnover of EUR 10 billion.

The Zagope representatives expressed interest in cooperating with Serbia, particularly in the contruction of roads, bridges, reconstruction of railway systems, airports, metro systems, railway stations, hydro and thermal power plants, as well as projects of the authorized ministry.

The Brazilian Ambassador told Tanjug that he is pleased that one of Brazil's largest construction companies that does business in over 30 countries across the world is interested in investing in Serbia. Addor-Neto said that the aim of the Zagope representative's visit to Belgrade is to gather ideas on projects for the improvement of infrastructure and transport that Serbia is interested in.

He pointed out that the goal is also to include the Brazilian Development Bank in the realization of infrastructural projects in Serbia, adding that the two countries have friendly relations and many similarities. Addor-Neto concluded that now is the time for promotion of all types of cooperation between Serbia and Brazil.

During the three-day visit to Serbia, the Brazilian economic delegation held meetings with the representatives of the Serbian Railways, Roads of Serbia, Corridors of Serbia, Internal Navigation Routes Directorate Plovput, and other companies.

I hope the snow and cold weather do not delay plans to open the Batajnica-Dobanovci section of the Beograd ring highway. I hope to be able to use it in April.

The full interchange itself at Batajnica will not be open for another year at the earliest, but the viaduct connecting to the Novi Sad direction and to the Bgd-Zgb highway is supposed to open in the Spring. No exact date has been given as far as I know. And I believe that only one carriageway will be open at first, the second some six months later.

While the bridge has been opened, work continues on the various access roads...with final completion scheduled for sometime in 2013.

Serbia Extends Bidding Deadline in Tender for Corridor X Section - TED

The bidding deadline in the tender for the construction of the Ciflik-Pirot road section of Corridor X in Serbia has been extended until March 15, a notice in the European Union’s procurement journal indicated on Thursday.

The original deadline in the tender was due to expire on February 16, the notice in the Tenders Electronic Daily, a supplement of the EU’s Official Journal, showed.

Serbian state-owned road construction and maintenance company Putevi Srbije has called a tender for construction works on the Belgrade bypass road, a notice in the EU procurement journal indicated.

The tendered works include the construction of a 10.05 kilometer section from the Dobanovci interchange to bridge No.8 over the Sava river as well as outstanding works on three bridges, rainwater sewer works, traffic signs and road furniture works and motorway lighting works, the notice published in the Tenders Electronic Daily over the weekend showed.

I gather this means they are planning the second carriage way from Dobanovci to and including the second bridge over the Sava river. I would have preferred they use these funds for one carriage way for the last section of the ring road, sectors 5 and 6. At least that way we would have a complete ring road, albeit half motorway. The second carriage way could then be added over the next few years.

Investors from Kazakhstan have shown interest in financing Serbia's motorway construcion program...including the previously announced Krusevac-Cacak (Pojate-Preljina) motorway, a link between the currently U/C corridors 10 & 11...

Serbia has invited Kazakh companies to participate in infrastructure and energy projects in the Balkan country, the Serbian infrastructure ministry said. The construction of the 100-kilometre Krusevac-Cacak motorway section, an investment of some 1.0 billion euro ($1.3 billion) could be very interesting for companies from Kazakhstan, Serbian Infrastructure Minister Milutin Mrkonjic said in a statement on Monday.

Well, Serbia's a poor country, without access to various EU funds that some other East European countries such as Poland or Hungary have...so it has to make do

Over the next decade - decade and a half, Serbia plans to spend at least 7 billion euros on motorway construction and obviously the money has to come from somewhere.

Looks quite good. With some minor corrections,
such as building Novi Sad-Ruma and Sabac towards Bijeljina in Serb Republic + linking Novi Pazar to the network...,
it would be even better.
