Do drivers in Serbia tend to ignore severe weather alerts? Why wasn't the motorway closed before this happened? This is just like the situation in Romania, where red code alerts were issued 2 days (!) before the storm hit, but there still were many drivers stuck on the motorways near Bucharest. Some of us wonder why they weren't closed off in the first place, to avoid this situation.

And another question: how long does it take to dig out the drivers, and how long till the motorway is reopoened?

Weather alerts? The whole reason for the pathetic saving of Albanian children by politicians flying in with helicopters is so that no one would remember to ask about the missing weather alerts. The highway was shut down when a rescue operation was already underway.

Digging them out probably not too long but removing those piles of snow takes a while, they must use tanks.

the snow was very dry so it practically acted like sand..

not only was there no weather alerts, but the irresponsible authorities who knew about the upcoming storm and wind (weather forecast announced it 2 days prior) did nothing to prepare for it and close the potentially problematic roads,
they have closed them (and sealed the borders for heavy trucks) AFTER people already got stuck - but the police predominantly failed to enforce that (already delayed) decision,
(another stupidity of our police can now be seen through advance of thieves on the abandoned cars)

Some kind of road was planned to go into Kruševac, with a trumpet interchange.

Kind of interesting...an Aussie reviews Serbian motorways

Quote:

The Serbian motorways are in good condition, and are comparable to the condition of a lot of our motorways. Some of ours are even better, and far better than the so called auto clubs and politicians would have you believe. The average Serbian autoput (motorway) speeds are high, far higher than the 120 km/h speed limit. Also take note of the fact that there aren't any 'Speed Kills' serial do-gooders in the outside lane, a very serious problem that both Australia and New Zealand motorway driving has, which clearly isn't being addressed.

well it is E-80, a short portion of Niš by-pass, just about to merge into E-75

after driving from Sofia, wasting time at the border, passing Sićevo Gorge, one can understand the excitement of the driver when hits the motorway

I am driving from Germany to Turkey over Serbia.

The motorways are in a good condition ( almost flat, less cars and no speed limit ). Only the part between Nis and the Bulgarian Border ( Dimitrovgrad ) must be upgraded. It would reduce travel time.

But the E-80 will be soon transformed to Autoput A4

But in Sićevo gorge you can drive 100-110 km/h average, after tunnel 3 even 140.

I've got a question: what is going to be finished sooner? Motorway towards Macedonia or towards Bulgaria?

It seems towards Bulgaria. Towards Macedonia there is still missing a section to be tendered.

Preliminary plan for the combined motorway/railroad bridge at Vinča and the motorway to connect it with E-75 at the future Bubanj potok interchange (in pink). Tunnels are gray, viaducts are orange.

Large plan of route from the Bubanj potok interchange (E-75) to Pančevo-Vršac road:
