Ok. I give up, because i'm albanian i'm just lying permanently and my statement has absolutely nothing to do with the fact, that i've been 6 times, just within this year, on your glory and perfect A1.

Croatia and Greece are having the best Motorways in the Balkans, not Serbia, not Albania, not Kosovo and so on.

I'm glad that the A1 exists, because it makes possible that i can be within 12-14 hours in one of my two mothercountries, Albania and Kosovo, from Vienna (at least until Croatia completes the A1). And i'll be more happy, when there is a motorway from Horgos until the border with Macedonia. I hope, that it's now clear that i'm not a racist like a SRS-Member.

@x-type: i've taken this photo on the A1 coming from Nis around 20km (it's possible, that it was more) before the exit Pozarevac. There is a few kilometer strech without a emegency lane.

@Ban.BL&Vrachar: You are sleeping with "Iseljavanje Arnauta" from Vasa Cubrilovic under your pillow?!

@CrazySerb: Thanks for sharing updates on the Kragujevac-Highway-Topic.

I thought Slovenia considers itself as a part of central europe.

Slovenia is considered to be part of the Balkan peninsula in a geographic sense. It's probably more considered to be part of central Europe in a socio-economic sense these days.

Just to say, looking at your picture it looks like the emergency lane is re-appearing in the exactly 100m in front of you. Just follow the edge of the tarmac.

I think that part is near Aleksinac, long about 1-2km. Keep in mind that this motorway was build some 25-30 years ago.

Which post? You mean the one about the crash barrier appearing after 100 meters?

Ok, here is a link to a post with more than 100 images of hwy Belgrade - Nis (235 km), posted a year ago in 2008.

I hope this will clarify the "issue" of a hard shoulder or a third lane, and there wouldn't be a need to dump hundred images to this thread.

Are there sections on the hwy with two lanes and no paved shoulder?
Yes. I think there are a few.
The highway was built 30-40 years ago, and when built, some sections of the highway were using existing bridges that were wide enough only to accommodate two lanes.

So, the sections without the paved shoulder are only hundred meters ahead of these few "bottlenecks" (old bridges 2 lane wide).

That's no problem and happens in virtually every country.

Beograd has now July 28th 2009 imagery on Google Earth!

You can see the progress of construction on the southern bypass.

You can also see the new bridge under construction, part of the future inner ring-road....

Note the large ~30 meter diameter hole for the future 200m tall pylon.

A couple of latest construction photos from so-called "Koridor 10" - two sections of the ~115km long Novi-Sad - Horgos stretch are currently being worked on. They should be finished by end of November.

With "Koridor 10" now on track for completition, Serbia's government is slowly turning to another project of equal ( to me, even greater) importance - motorway that will connect Montenegro's main port of Bar with Belgrade through some of the most populated yet least developed parts of Serbia & Montenegro

Belgrade-Cacak tender in 2010

4.9.2009

Tender for the construction of two sections of the Belgrade-Cacak highway will be invited on January 1, as informed by Serbian Minister of Infrastructure Milutin Mrkonjic. The Minister denied the statements which say that Croatia-based Konstruktor will be performing the works on the Belgrade-South Adriatic highway through Serbia.

He says he only supports the works on Montenegrin section of the highway that are performed by Konstruktor. Construction works on the Belgrade-South Adriatic highway should begin on March 1.

Highway to the Adriatic

3.9.2009

The Belgrade-Bar highway will be 420 kilometers long and will be connecting ports on the Danube and the Adriatic. The highway is going to be the shortest connection of Hungary and Romania with south Italy and Albania via Serbia and Montenegro.

Preliminary projects have already been created and Putevi Srbije has already invited tender for creating general projects. Construction should begin in March 2010, according to the Infrastructure Minister Milutin Mrkonjic. Details on the financing of the projects are not known for the moment.

Belgrade-Bar motorway:

Most likely, at the very same time, Belgrade-Vrsac-Romanian border(Timisoara) motorway will be under construction.

I am not shore about this Crna Gora autoput.

My guess is that most simple solution would be as at the map:

Red line: existing full profile
Dot red line: currently in construction

Dark red: must be done ASAP.

Nis - Bulgarian border
Leskovac - to the south ( it is in construction anyway)
Branch to Kosovo, Gnjilane
Branch to Bijeljina (BiH, RS)
Branch Pancevo-Romania. Flat. Cheap.
Motorway to Crna Gora. Would it be cheaper to extend Kragujevac branch further down, than make complete new full profile Belgrade-Cacak?
And, maybe, make new full profile at shorter branch, over Sjenica?

well, the meeting place with MNE is Boljare (east of Bijelo Polje), then the road was planned to go over Pester Plateau and continue sort of along Moravica river

at this time it is only announced tender for a 40 km section in Belgrade vicinity (it is more like improving Belgrade traffic than building a road to MNE) ... and the terrain is hwy-friendly to Lazarevac-Ljig, then further south of Ljig gets expensive ..
