It is not from the time when SRB and MKD were the same country, because back then only latin script was used. Actually sign from link below is from YU time, very old.

The non standard script problem is a different issue but 3A(fkd up L)PE((fkd up B) is not too hard to remember if you are generally heading the right way to Zagreb anyway. Not many European cities have a name beginning with a 3.
And З˙рицх?

So Thessaloniki is gone...
Serbia chosen to write foreign destinations only in native language, while some years ago it also included Serbian name, but this was abandoned for some reason.

Few years ago, Zagreb in Serbian Cyrillic too:

Now only native:

For example, Hungary or Slovenia also write domestic name beside native name > Gradec/Graz, Trst/Trieste > Belgrád/Beograd, Bécs/Wien, Pozsony/Bratislava and so on.

MK has english names for foreign destinations

In Croatia, foreign destinations are only signed in their language, for example Koper (not Kopar), Budapest, Wien... (but only in latin script, Beograd is not written in cyrillic).

Nis-Pristina motorway gets a boost...

Quote:
Work on Nis-Merdare highway stretch to commence before end-2016
Thursday, 08/27/2015|15:17 | Source: Beta

Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said today (August 27th) in Vienna that one of the most important projects for Serbia was the construction of Nis-Pristina-Drac highway, voicing his expectation that the work on Nis-Merosina-Prokuplje-Kursumlija-Merdare stretch 77 kilometers long could commence before the end of 2016.

As the Serbian government announced in a release, Vucic said that at a meeting with Suma Chakrabarti, the president of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), with whom he spoke about the projects that Serbia was going to present at today's Western Balkans Summit.

Chakrabarti stressed that the EBRD would do everything to accelerate the implementation of that extremely significant project for the entire region.

The president of the EBRD pointed out that he personally often cited Serbia as an example of successful fiscal reforms. He used the opportunity to invite PM Vucic to attend the Investment Summit in London in February 2016, it is said in the release. The release also reads that Vucic asked the EBRD for advice and assistance in attracting foreign investments and support to the World Bank's projects related to the privatization of companies, especially those undergoing restructuring. He also asked the officials of this finance institution to share their experience in developing the entrepreneurial spirit, the lack of which he believes to be the biggest obstacle to quick economic recovery of Serbia.

Chinese practically begging Serbia to suggest/invent new infrastructure projects ...

Quote:
Chinese and Serbian presidents meet in Beijing

Chinese investments and infrastructure projects in Serbia are "of great importance for the strengthening of economic cooperation between the two countries."

Source: Beta, Tanjug Monday, August 31, 2015 | 14:50

This is what President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping and his Serbian counterpart Tomislav Nikolic concluded in Beijing on Monday, according to a statement from the Serbian Presidency.

Nikolic said during the meeting that big infrastructure projects - such as the start of the second phase at power plant Kostolac and the Belgrade-Budapest railroad - "give a strong impulse to economic cooperation between the two countries."

"The friendship between Serbia and China is traditional and we are very grateful that you are helping Serbia get on its feet," said Nikolic, and invited Xi to visit Serbia.

Stressing the importance of realizing road corridor projects - worth over EUR 1.4 billion - Nikolic asked Xi that the Chinese side "reconsiders the conditions of financing the project, in the sense of cutting interest rates and extending the payment deadline to 20 years."

In this way, he said, "Serbia will be able to efficiently and in the optimal manner fulfill its obligations."

"There are many areas in which the Chinese side could invest, including food processing and pharmaceutical industries, IT, truck and tractor manufacturing," Nikolic added, and informed his Chinese counterpart about the profitability of a Morava-Vardar canal (project), that would not only mean building five hydropower plants and irrigating 300,000 hectares of farming land, "but would also cut the waterway by 2,000 kilometers."

The Chinese president said his country would support Chinese investors to invest even more in Serbia, and agreed it was important to quickly and efficiently realize the Kostolac power plant and Belgrade-Budapest railroad projects.

"Financing conditions are important for every project and we will find a way to realize the job. Your side is welcome to suggest new projects as well, and we will support them," Xi stressed.

According to the statement, he expressed his satisfaction over the comprehensive nature of bilateral relations between the two countries, "that gained a completely new dimension after the signing of the two presidents' joint statement in 2013."

Xi also stressed that participation of Serbian soldiers and Nikolic at the upcoming military parade in Beijing was "a clear signal that Serbia values highly its friendship toward China."

"Now is the time for our relations to reach a new level. Serbia is our important and sincere partner in Central and Eastern Europe," the Chinese president said, adding China's "One Belt, One Road" project, from which Serbia can benefit significantly, will represent additional momentum in economic relations between the two countries.

On top of the already concluded projects with Chinese such as A3 (Belgrade-Bar motorway) or currently ongoing negotiations concerning additional sections of A3 or Belgrade ring motorway, the first things that pop into my head would be the planned Pojate-Preljina motorway (A5) as well the so-called, ~140km long "Corridor East" motorway - between city of Pozarevac and towns in eastern Serbia, eventually linking up with the RO/BG border at Vidin/Calafat.

After a long pause, some good news regarding the continuation of work on Belgrade's UMP (inner ring road) expressway - clumsy Google translate unfortunately:

Quote:
Ada Bridge: In the game of 8 companies from 6 countries

Continued work on the approach to the bridge on Ada. Interested performers from Serbia, Italy, Spain, Austria ...

Novobeogradske approaches to the bridge consists of two elevated structure for road traffic, between which there is a third dedicated rail transportation. On the other shares to Tosin wells, the total length of the north approach roads is three kilometers, with six intersections, which allow the vehicle to this road were poured into the surrounding road network.

Everything is smaller steps to continue the construction of access roads Ada Bridge from New Belgrade, writes Vecernje Novosti.

The pre-qualification procedure occurred eight companies from six countries - Italy, Spain, Bosnia, Austria, China and Serbia. And two days ago, the Directorate for city construction land has invited eligible bidders to submit bids to the tender documents for works on Tosin well.

Interested contractors have 30 days to submit a tender, and then the Commission within 25 days of the bid opening that decision. The criterion for evaluation is the lowest available price. However, in the event that two or more bids have the same lowest price, as the best will be chosen one with a shorter completion date.

By all accounts, there is no chance that the construction of roads, which is part of the Inner Ring Road, to begin this year. This, among other things, depends on the behavior of participants who have the opportunity to object to what could somewhat extend the process, but it works definitely planned for next year. The exact deadline will be known after the conclusion of the contract with the selected bidder.

Otherwise, the Ada Bridge and its approaches are part of the first construction phase of the Inner Ring Road (UMP), which is supposed to stretch from Wholesale Market to Pancevo bridge. To make it complete, it is yet to make a section of highway from the flea market to Tosin wells, the length of two kilometers.

There are more important projects than "Corridor East", because the traffic on the current roads is very low.
How about some roads such as Novi Sad-Šabac/Loznica through Fruška Gora, Beograd-Vršac or from Niš to administrative line/border/whatever at Merdare? These roads AFAIK have more traffic than "Corridor East".
