Remember the long-forgotten Subotica bypass?

Quote:
The deadline for completion of the Y branch 20 March - still remaining paving and installation of traffic signals on the bypass around Subotica
Thursday, 02. 03. 2017 | 15: 58 | Source: Politika

On the arm of the Y, the bypass being built around Subotica, distribute the workers and heavy machinery Vojput from the roundabout on the road Bikovački over a kilometer long section of the loop on the Subotica - South. Parallel work is ongoing on all three construction sites: ending leveling the roundabout, take the application of asphalt on the road, and it is a reconstruction of the loop.

In the section of the ring road which should connect Kelebija border crossing with the highway Belgrade-Subotica and thus displace part of the international freight traffic out of the city, construction workers came out on November 10 last year.

The company Vojput the tender announced by the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure won a deal worth 123.5 million dinars. Their task is to do the reconstruction loop Subotica - South end of the road, a distance of one kilometer from the loop Subotica - South to the intersection with Y-spoke Bikovački way, and the roundabout at this junction. At this stage it is envisaged to set up public lighting, traffic signals and all other necessary papers.

The deadline for completion is March 20, because throughout January because of a large overdraft was not possible to work on the ground. How to explain the workers in the field, until 15 March should be completed works with asphalt, and then drawn and placed traffic signs.

Photo: mihalec / ************.com
In the past two months, when the work was possible, workers Vojput have raised the existing roundabout at Bikovački road about 80 centimeters, it was during the second set of three layers of asphalt, a distance of about a kilometer along the route Y arm, and lasts reconstruction loop Subotica - South, which will now be possible to turn on and off the highway.

Light towers have been installed and the workers engaged in the construction site they say that there is no reason to do a specific job and the deadline is not completed. Y arm has a semi-motorway profile, ie. three lanes.

Y leg is being built since 1990, and the various political team promised the completion of this work, this is the beginning of works opened seven times, but has not yet been completed even half of the course. Otherwise, older workers Vojput say that this section of the work for the third time, as the project is changed several times, but were necessary adjustments. This time there was no ceremonial start of work, or road workers say they are every week on-site visit to Imre Kern, Secretary of State of the competent ministry, which is in detail informed about the course of works.

Local government has repeatedly heard that the Serbian government is ready to and in 2018 for the completion of roads allocate one billion dinars, and another 800 million in 2019, to finally be completed this section, which is part of Corridor 10th

Slavija seriously needs a Potsdamer Platz-esque makeover ASAP:

Thankfully, there's ample space for it.

I think that sort of thing is more suitable for New Belgrade.
Slavija square will hopefully never be as sterile as that place in Berlin.

More appropriate revitalization plan...

Your personal opinion.

Except it's not really sterile at all. (my personal opinion)
Also, I've been to both places, and I believe I can attest to their qualities myself.

Besides, I don't think anybody in their right mind would actually consider literally *transplanting* an urban environment from another city. Slavija is clearly different enough from Potsdamer Platz to warrant a completely unique urban project; yet similar enough for the comparison to be valid.

Furthermore, what Belgrade lacks right now is quality office & commercial space near the old city core that would divert parts of the morning east-west migrations to New Belgrade. That would provide its eastern and southeastern suburbs an alternative to New Belgrade in terms of employment location. It would ease congestion, and further develop this currently underdeveloped part of downtown. Obviously, new forms of infrastructure (metro) would be needed to further capitalize on the potential.

P.S. I'm not in any way saying the Komlenic plan is bad, but I would like to see a more striking architectural structure planted on the northern edges of the square.
