well it's definitely not the only rest area there, and since it is far in the south, location probably doesn't too matter where it was installed. after all, there are also rest areas without gas stations where it could be located. it's really stupid idea to place it there.

In April I drove that piece and only the first part was open. Are there any opening dates in the next days for the other parts?. I will come across this road in 3 weeks...
24km have been opened since April, located about mid-way between Nis and the border. Further 30km are expected to open in the end of Aug/begining of Sept (westwards from the border).

Today's SAT Patrol - heading to Greece again, this time they're showing the viewers some less crowded border crossings, as most people don't like waiting 5-6 hours just to cross a border

Are you sure not before 2019?

I thought by mid-late 2018 that entire section from Niš to Dimitrovgrad should be completed.
The works are still at the beginning stage. However, a lot of subcontractors are employed by Aktor, 19 to be exact. It is expected that Svolos, the biggest subcontractor will also join them, once Gradinje near Dimitrovgrad is more or less completed in late August. If they keep the current pace of work, we can expect at least one side of the highway Bancarevo - Crvena reka to be completed by the next summer, thus allowing Prosek-Bancarevo to be used as well and expect the completion by the end of 2018. So no, I do not agree with @Pancevo at all. I despise politicians and their lies as well but these estimates have nothing to do with them.

if we are talking about the full completion (full motorway standard), then one who has been observing the construction of the a4 from the very beginning cannot take the Mid-2018 projection seriously (given that one doesn't believe in fairytales)

I have seen many "optimists" here over the years and at the end even my guesses could have been regarded as optimistic...

Therefore I can bet anything that bancarevo-c.reka will not reach full motorway standard before 2019

I think can hope to have 2 carriageways from Prosek to right after the tunnels and half-profile afterwards next summer. This will be a very good progress and will make the traffic situation very easy.

Interesting stat just cited by the infrastructure minister - Serbia's Corridor 10 (A1 and its branches) is
expected to see traffic rise from 36 million vehicles in 2014 to 48 million this year.

(all distances are approximations)
2014:

A1 = 502km
A4 = 18,5km
A3 = 125 km

Sum = 645,5

2017:

A1 = 530km
A4 = 73km
A3 = 125km

sum = 728

728/645 = 1,128

1,128 * 36 mil = 40 mil

8 mil through increased traffic?

In terms of civil engineering, it's a pretty meaningless statistic. The corridor has a widely fluctuating usage so that figure cannot tell whether the corridor adequately built or not. Traffic counts for each segment are much more indicative.

Land expropriation completed on Surcin-Obrenovac section... Google-translated:

Quote:

Expropriation on the Surčin-Obrenovac section - € 8 million paid to the owners of the country

Expropriation of land from Surcin to Obrenovac due to the construction of the highway was completed on a total area of 240 hectares. This allowed the construction of this section of the highway in 17.6 kilometers. About one billion dinars were paid to the owners, or 8 million euros.

The least money was given to the owners of the seventh-class field in the cadastral municipality of Boljevci, only 200 dinars per square meter, while the most expensive pay square in Surcin cost 20 times more.

The owners of the best positioned construction plots paid 4,000 dinars per square meter, or about 3,200 euros for the country.

The assessment of market value was made by the Tax Administration. Thus, the square in Boljevac was 200 dinars, in Jakovo 400, and in Surcin 900 dinars. For building land, Putevi paid 2,000 dinars per square in Boljevac, 2,500 in Jakovo and 4,000 in Dinara in Surcin. In the municipality of Obrenovac in Mislođin and Barič, the lowest price of the square was 1,500 dinars.

Roads in Serbia say that 24 families will have to evacuate from their homes, because 14 buildings are expropriated in the territory of the Municipality of Surčin, and another 10 in Obrenovac. On the route of the future highway, only the works on the bridge across the Sava are currently taking place, so that no forced eviction .

Workers of the Chinese company CCCC started work in Baric in March, where a bridge of almost two kilometers will be lowered which will overcome both Sava and Kolubara.

It is planned that the work will end in three years, and when all the works are completed, citizens will travel to Montenegro with a modern 6-lane road, instead of the unsafe and unusual Ibarska magistral road.

The project of this route was done by the CIP Traffic Institute, and it is envisaged that the drivers on this section will be included on loops Batajnica, Dobanovci, Ostružnica, Orlovača or Bubanj potok. After the bypass it will reach the loop of Surčin, which is the initial part of the highway E-763, Belgrade - the southern Adriatic.

Speaking of Chinese - while at first glance somewhat off-topic, very much related actually, especially considering how much we're relying on Chinese help on our infrastructure projects in Serbia, Montenegro and quite possibly soon, in Serb Republic as well ....

Construction of the largest Chinese cultural center in Europe, broke ground in Belgrade this week...

After Kragujevac, it seems that Valjevo will be next city to be connected to Serbia's motorway network via an expressway of some sort. Not willing to wait as long as Serbia's motor city did for the projects completion, Valjevo has turned to the Chinese...

Quote:
Valjevo awaits the project for joining the Corridor 11 - For the road to Nepričava the consent of Railways

The construction of the section of the M4 road, which will connect Valjevo in Neprika with the Corridor 11, according to the statement of Deputy Mayor Dragan Jeremic, will be done next year, the portal Kolubarska reports.

- It is definitely decided to work on the existing road and already we have taken the preliminary design into the Roads of Serbia. However, the problem is that we need to make a wider consensus, because a good project can not be done without the consent of the Serbian Railways. In agreement with the Roads of Serbia and Serbian Railways, we have to do this project at some time or six to eight months, so that we can build that road as we envisaged - in a five-bar profile, where possible, that is, with four ribbons. Certainly there will be parts for expropriation, but that is not an unsolvable problem - said Jeremic.

About projects and construction of the section that will connect Valjevo in Neprika to the highway is spoken for more than eight months.
In mid-November last year, the City Council accepted an initiative to finance works on the construction of part of the road from Lumber to Nepricava, in the length of 16.6km, which will connect Valjevo with Corridor 11.

Mayor Slobodan Gvozdenović then informed members of the City Council that there is a possibility for the Republic to finance the construction of this section, which would be of great importance for the city, so that in mid-April, MP Mihailo Jokić said that for that section of the road, CIP works on the project.

- This road will certainly be done, the Chinese will do it when they finish the section Surcin-Obrenovac. That has already been agreed - Jokic said.

Serbia to complete Kragujevac-Batocina motorway construction in H1'18

BELGRADE (Serbia), May 25 (SeeNews) – Serbian infrastructure minister Zorana Mihajlovic said on Thursday the construction of the 24 km-long motorway connecting Kragujevac to Batocina will be completed in the first half of 2018.

Serbian state-owned company PZP Kragujevac is expected to complete the construction of the 18.5 km-long Zirovnica-Kragujevac stretch of the motorway by the end of June 2017, Mihajlovic said in a statement.

A tender for the construction of the 5 km-long Batocina bypass will be called after September, following completion of drafting of project documents.

The future motorway in central Serbia is of considerable importance, as it will connect Kragujevac, the country's fourth largest city, to the Trans-European Transport Corridor X, Mihajlovic added.

Corridor X is projected to connect Salzburg in Austria to the Greek port of Thessaloniki, passing through Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia and Macedonia.

Dear Serbian friends,
I want to ask again about the last ready section of Nis-Dimitrovrgad motorway: Is there a variant to be used road 427 from Crvena Reka to Bancarevo as a temporary connection?
Road 427 has been already used for the international traffic in 2006 during the reconstruction and extension of the 13 tunnels in the Sicevacka Gorge.

Interesting question. Would be interested, too.

On Google satellite images you can see that road 427 crosses the new motorway on two spots. One does look as it can't be crossed.
Hope I am wrong. Is this road faster than the other one?

According to Google Maps: From Crvena reka to Prosek via the tunnels - 21.6 km, from Crvena reka to the west entrance of Bancarevo tunnel via Road 427 - 11.6 km and further - motorway.

This would not be a good idea at all and I believe it is not being seriously considered, though there were similar ideas before. Road trough the gorge is in good condition and with few exceptions almost no accidents occur on this section. There is no valid reason one should use the road 427 over this one. It is not even certain that any political scoring from opening the finished section from Prosek to Bancarevo would be gained, therefore I honestly doubt this could happen at all. With pressure on Contractor and fact that his other sections are either opened or will be in the next couple of months (meaning majority of works completed) meaning that all his resources will be available for section Bancarevo - Crvena Reka, it is to be expected that this section, or at least one carriageway will be available for opening in mid 2018.
