The most likely scenario in my book is that Poland will get Lublin-Rzeszów built by 2021-2 (the current government is likely to green light it over many other routes waiting), which will provide a route via Warsaw towards Lithuania. Rzeszów towards Slovakia is unlikely in the short term without EU funding.

In Slovakia, it's hard to imagine anything other than Kosice-HU border being finished without EU money, and then Hungary should manage to get the final SK border-Miskolc section built too.

From there, it's hard to imagine any more construction when the M3-M5 route in Hungary is only 120km more. The N-S route will be more or less complete from Athens to the north, with the possible exception of a motorway/expressway between Kaunas and Riga.

Serbia is an integral part of this route, and it's absolutely pointless to consider building something parallel just to avoid Serbia. Serbia is already integrated into EU systems anyway, so transit is no big deal.

You are absolutely correct on the short term ( next 5 years)

The problem is that the North routes which come together in Austria are clogging up fast and it is hard to get to/from anywhere in SE Europe without crossing Austria. The Czechs have introduced an expensive vignette and are not interested in attracting transit traffic at all.

If Austria balks further at the transit traffic volumes the only conceivable alternative is to go east in Germany/Poland and south from there via Slovakia/Hungary somehow. There is a part built Katowice<>Bratislava motorway but the last sections are costing €40m a km to build (no tunnels), according to the last tenders, as they are in High Carpathians.

Most of the Slovakia/Poland border is serious mountain and they only finally get less serious in the very east near the Ukraine.

Romania is nowhere near completing a motorway route around Serbia, many many years away in fact. Bulgaria is not too worried about building a high quality road to the NW and the Danube Bridge as it would connect to ....nothing to the north.

The only game in Europe will be via Serbia until at least 2030 the way things look. It is a very important overland corridor with no substitute route in sight.

By then of course Serbia should have its current motorway network paid off in full.

The motorway that stretches from the Albanian border to Trudë (village north of Prishtina) the motorway is complete. The government will continue to build the remaining 25-30km all the way to the border with Serbia after the full completion of the R6 motorway from Prishtinë- Fyrom border.

I never said it was fully complete.... im hoping that they don't waste money on this stretch and invest the money on regional roads.

And You are psychiatrist?

1. part of sentence:The motorway is Nis- Merdare

2. part of sentence: Kosovo has already built its side of the motorway. From this sentence it can be concluded that is finished.

3. part of sentence: it only has about 30km or so to complete. From this it can be concluded that is not finished.

In #7675 You have said: Please remove this offensive map.... the motorway ffom Merdare to Morinë has nothing to do with Serbia as the Serbian government has no control or authority over its construction, neither does it provide funding on this project. That part of the motorway is built and funded by the Republic of Kosovo government. Stop misinforming the international community here.

So it makes confusion to other people. Is it or is not finished.

It is in not complete at all...the section north of Pristina has not even started. And it would be the main motorway connecting all of Albania to the entire European road network and is hardly insigificant for 4m people and the goods they produce and require.

Great time-lapse of the launching of the second, bigger road-rail Zezelj bridge arch:

While this is one of the most crucial objects on the new Belgrade-Budapest high speed rail, it's not the most complex - work has now begun by the Russian national railway firm (RZD) on the new ~1,200m "Cortanovci" railway tunnel under Fruska Gora national park.

What's the expected groundbreaking date, 2018 or 2019?

The lastest pics of the neighboring section - Ostruznica bridge - don't look like the 2nd carriageway might be opened on time in March 2018. Is there any updated deadline?

Talking about A1... Is there any news on the remaining sections u/c in the south? I guess all works are delayed and deadlines might be out-dated considering the latest pics posted here...

I've stopped caring for official deadline a long time ago. They're rough guesses, or outright lies.

From the west to the north no. The other 11 combinations are covered.

What's the purpose of a "stump" shown in the lower left part? Possible future west-north connection or something else?

I'm not sure what you mean. The red stump at the right is for the next phase of the bypass, eastward to the future bridge over the Danube at Vinča, and farther towards Pančevo. That red stump is gray on the plan bellow. The bridge will also carry a train track of the cargo rail bypass. The interchange (in purple) has been revised a bit.

This bellow is the current plan for the whole full circle of the Belgrade bypass, with the tentative route of the Pančevo-Batajnica section (in yellow) with another bridge over the Danube at Batajnica. Motorway is in orange, rail is in red.
