Sofia/Sofija/Sofiya is almost the same, so everyone will know that they are on the road towards Sofia/Sofija/Sofiya

i've driven this summer from belgrade to sarajevo through uzice-visegrad.the road is in good condition and very, very spectacular.it will take u through many tunnels and river canyons.from belgrade to uzice i suggest u take the road through valjevo, because it's less crowded and shorter.at the border u probably won't have to wait even 10mins because border officers are very operative.on the serbian side of the border there is a village called mokra gora where u can find cheap and decent accomodation(10E/pers) and u can also take a touristic train through the famous sargan's eight line.believe me it worth it.

On the way back to Poland......driving through Serbia

On the way back to Poland I have shoot a couple of pictures of Serbian E75 motorway.

Heading for Belgrade

Belgrade around the corner...

Apparently i must have missed my junction cause I found myself making for Zagreb instead of Budapest

U-turn performed on the nearest junction and correct Budapest direction chosen eventually

Construction works begin before the Danube bridge

Alpine constructs north bridge over the Danube river

Quite a wide this river is...

This crane is not the smallest one

Northband roadway already completed

A couple of hours before budapest..

construction of Novi Sad bypass

Last petrol stations in Serbia

Serbian terminal ahead of us

Serbia says goodbye

Hungary says welcome

That's all folks, thank you for your attention...

Hi, just to add a bit of info on Igor's wonderful photo-essay.
The construction of the second bridge near Beska, on Danube, is about to begin this month, and the completion deadline is 2010, when the Belgrade-Novi Sad highway will be upgraded to full profile. Upgrade of the section Novi Sad - junction Feketic will commence simultaneously, and the final section, Feketic -Hungarian border (Horgos) will be finished somewhat later, around 2011.

I am very impressed by Serbia, they build new motorways with a speed that noone can top. They can build 20 and more km streches in one year without a problem. They are really very fast and everytime you go there you see new asphalt. The new roads are very smooth and even. It´s a country which is progressing. The motorway taxes are a bit too high though.

Exactly which motorways are build that fast? As far as I know, the most important project is the southern beltway of Beograd which seems to be progressing rather slow.

I think he's kidding. Serbia is perfect example of how not to build a motorway.

Things could easily change soon, though.

They built the secion of 20 km 50 km away of the Hungarian border very fast. They rehabilitated the Nish - Kalotina road partly also very fast, niw they are rehabilitating the rest of it. When they start building a motorway they do it fast. And if you say they are good at not building a motorway what do you think about Bulgaria, eh?

I don't know. Maybe the doubling of road 22 from Beograd past Novi Sad to Subotica? I believe that road was 1+1 with grade-separated intersections.

There are full profile streches, 20 km or so, with two lanes each direction and emergency lanes, I don´t have pics of it. And there are some sections under consruction right now.

There are no full profile sections between Novi Sad and Hungarian border, only 1+1 highway with hard shoulder. There are some works on Novi Sad bypass.
