Can also include some good NZ films as well.

Sands of Iwo Jimo (1949) some location shooting.

Sleeping Dogs (1977) with Sam Neil a revolutionary struggle against a totalitarian regime. Set in multiple locations throughout NZ

Bad Blood (1981) set in the small West Coast town of Koiterangi, during World War II, and is based on the factual manhunt for mass-murderer Stanley Graham. Starring Aussie Jack Thompson.

Smash Palace (1981) filmed near the town of Ohakune.

Goodbye Pork Pie (1981) got a copy still on DVD.

Loved the old Holden HQ cop cars that chase these nutters North to South.

Marry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence (1983) location shooting.

Nate and Hayes, also known as Savage Islands (1983) set in Fiji and New Zealand.

The Bounty had some locales in NZ also.

Bad Taste (1987) - Peter Jackson's first - filmed around Pukerua Bay, north of Wellington.

Brain Dead (1992) - Peter Jackson again - Wellington (1950's). The best LAWNMOWER SCENE EVER.

The Piano (1993) filmed largely at bethells beach, One of Auckland's West Coast Beaches.

First NZ film to get Oscars (3 in fact). From Rotton Tomatoes.com "Featuring a haunting piano score by Michael Nyman and brilliant performances, THE PIANO is a masterpiece, considered one of the best films of the 1990s."

Heavenly Creatures (1994) not Peter Jackson's first but one of his best.

Filmed in Christchurch.

Once Were Warriors (1994). Filmed in Auckland.

Savage Hooneymoon (1999) - Auckland Westies.

The Last Samurai (2003) filmed at New Plymouth.

Oh yea, all the Lord of the Rings Trilogy and King Kong (Peter Jackson).

A few Qld made feature-films, some personal favourites!

The Proposition a Western, shot around Winton, it's currently in the IMDB top 50 Westerns of all-time!

The Thin red line, a ww2 film shot in far north Qld, it got nominated for 9 oscars, it also stars just about everyone in hollywood.

The Great Raid, a ww2 film, shot in Bribie Island and the Gold Coast, a good film but a major flop, took to long to release.

Sydney Harbour Bridge DESTROYED!!

Alien attack . . . a sneak preview of The Day The Earth Stood Still, which will be released on Boxing Day.

The Day the Earth Stood Still

IT HAS endured more than 70 years of weather, fireworks and traffic but in just a few seconds the Sydney Harbour Bridge comes crashing down.

In The Day The Earth Stood Still, which premieres on Boxing Day, alien invaders arrive on Earth to purge the planet of the one thing that is killing all life - mankind.

When their leader, Klaatu (played by Keanu Reeves) is attacked, a swarm of tiny robots fly over the Earth destroying everything in their path.

And one of the first landmarks to go is the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

In just seconds, the swarm starts at the north end of the bridge and works its way towards the city, tearing everything apart as it goes.

Girders fly, steel struts dissolve and the roadway, all 1.16 kilometres of it, disappears as the "nanobots" strip the steel and concrete to its component atoms.

The result of hundreds of hours of computer graphics, the image, seen here in sneak-preview photographs released by 20th Century Fox, is as spectacular as it is unnerving.

The Day The Earth Stood Still, which in its first week shot to the top of the US box office, is a retelling of a 1951 science-fiction film which originally had Klaatu arriving to warn the people of Earth of the dangers of the escalating nuclear arms race.

This time around, the story has been tweaked to reflect current global ecological and weather concerns.

When he arrives, Reeves's alien warns humanity our reckless abuse of the Earth has left his watching species with no choice but to intervene before we destroy the planet and its rare ability to sustain life.

The Day The Earth Stood Still also stars Jaden Smith, Kathy Bates, Jennifer Connelly and John Cleese.

Where's 'Goodbye Pork Pie'?

I think that was filmed all over NZ.

Braindead was a crazy movie. I don't think I'll ever appreciate Peter Jackson though - The Frighteners was filmed in Wellington wasn't it?

"Wind", a lame film about America recapturing the Americas Cup in 1987 starring Matthew Modine and Jennifer Grey was filmed in Perth during 1991.

The Protector starring Tony Jaa was filmed in Sydney. There is a scene of him walking across the Harbour Bridge with his elephant and it is the crappest special efects I've ever seen.

There is a few films being filmed here (Adelaide) now or have finished filming recently. And I don't mean that Bollywood flop (I mean future Australian flops).

I caught The Day The Earth Stood Still at a cinema here in Japan last night. No sign of the Sydney Harbour Bridge destroyed in the version that we got here (though there was a nice romantic shot of the SHB at the end). I'm guessing that they're including a couple of scene specific shots for each country to please the local punters.

I enjoyed it, but then I'm a sucker for apocalyptic type movies (I'm not sure what that says about me...). Keanu Reeves is as wooden as ever, though it kind of works in this movie.
