I don't know why people keep comparing London to all the other big skyscraper cities. Even people who live in London who want London to be allowed to build towers know it will never compete up there with NYC or Shaghai or Dubai. I just don't really get it.

But what do I get - well I get the fact that London is undergoing probably its biggest transformation since Victorian times, not just from its tall buildings but the massive regeneration projects across the capital; and this skyline and its clusters shows a real confidence in having modern architecture next to its historical architecture. London has a knack of absorbing its iconic buildings very quickly into its urban footprint and psychology of its people, and this render shows that, even for the ones unbuilt.

Indeed - i don't understand why people are placing so much emphasis on whether London will or will not become a skyscraper city, up there with the likes of New York and Hong Kong.

I for one hope that London never becomes swamped with skyscrapers like those cities (the forest of skyscrapers works fantastically well in those cities...but London is a whole different beast). London is getting some high quality, well designed tall buildings - it will never be able to compare with the massive skyscraper cities of the US and Asia - but individually our tall buildings will rank up their with the best those cities have produced....its quality, not quantity.

I would hate it if London gets over run with so many tall buildings. i want Quality not quantity and London to retain its character. there are too many cities in the world which are so alike getting swamped with skyscrapers and its kinda boring, at least London is different.

I agree, I dont want London to turn in manhatten either. Ive been hearing alot of "London cant compare to those cities," well i agree in terms of skyscrapers but id like to say well in turn those cities cant compare to London in alot of ways. Im not going to elaborate with a list of details but there are many many things that make London London and no other city around the world will ever compare. So lets just be glad that we are getting these top quality skyscrapers. If they do all get built London WILL become a skyscraper city, just because its not as impressive as manhatten etc doesnt mean it isnt a skyscraper city.

Nah, I don't want London to be a forest of skyscrapers like Honkers or NYC... nor do I want us to be clustered like Paris/La Defense (I may be wrong though).

London is unique in that we attibute our size (area) to the fact that we're made up of lots of self-sustained villages. Our skyscrapers should reflect that... pinnacles popping up all over the city at transport nodes, town centres etc., in the disorganised, unplanned fashion that is the hallmark of London's thousand years of urban development. London in the 21st century should look like that 17th century Wren-era skyline drawing with spires going up all over the shop.

At least 10 of us have pointed out that London can't be compared to NYC. I think the others get the point now!

Actually, I wanted to add the Seager Distillery Tower but it would've been just out of view. But yeah, this rendering isn't complete. Several more towers in Southwark and elsewhere to add. Maybe we could feature this on SkyscraperNews?

I believe we will be lucky if Central London has 3 or maybe 4 additional skyscrapers by 2012. And to be honest I would be very happy with that outcome.

Well, Leadenhall is confirmed, as are Bishopsgate and Heron... The news regarding the Shard today looks EXTREMELY promising...

So thats 4 right there

And we should have Riverside South and possibly Heron Quays West in CW, as the CWG have said they intend to submit an application in the autumn and start next year...

And I can see some of the other towers going ahead too, St Geoges Wharf, Beetham etc...
