Metro Tunnel: Melbourne's changing face revealed as consortium named for $11 billion project
The Victorian government has revealed more details of Melbourne's changing face, above and below ground, as it announced its preferred bidder for the city's new $11 billion rail tunnel on Sunday. Lendlease - the construction giant that missed out on building the dumped East West Link project - will now get a slice of the Metro Rail construction project, which is expected to create more than 5000 jobs.

It joins a consortium called the Cross Yarra Partnership, also comprising John Holland, Bouygues Construction and Capella Capital. The consortium will now negotiate a final contract.

Construction of the tunnel is expected to disrupt the city for the next decade.

Will there be connections between Flinders Street/CBD South and Melbourne Central/CBD North? Also, why no South Yarra station for the tunnel?

Yes there will be connections behind fare gates for both CBD North and South. No connection at South Yarra due to 1) Original tunnel went all the way to Caulfield via Balaclava and Dandenong Rd and 2) Due to cost cutting, the tunnel was shortened and a station would cost another $1B which the government doesn't want to spend.
