They're not as rare as they used to be:

Roundabouts are being built like crazy all over the country, they aren't rare at all.

I've seen roundabouts here in southwestern ontario but I haven't seen a sign for it.

They really butchered those mountain sides in BC. Why didn't they build elevated bridge viaducts. Not only would it keep the land intact and allow animals to cross under them, they look 10x better. Those cuts look like absolute shit. At least TRY and keep some of the original mountain side beneath the road, intact. Instead of just a gravel hill

The original plan called for a tunnel of some 3.4 km, hence the "West Portal" name at Golden. As usual, the Govt. chickened out and went with "Plan B". In the YouTube video, the first avalanche gallery structure provides more protection to the west bound lanes, as compared to the east bound lanes. Still, it will be better than what's currently known as "The Goat Trail".

As for the cut at the end of the Park Bridge, this too was supposed to be a tunnel, but no. "Safety issues" as well as cost were the reasons (read EXCUSES ) behind the decision to go with a cut.

Not sure if I would prefer the long tunnel option. After being through many long tunnels in Asia, I think I prefer staying above ground to enjoy seeing the landscapes. I think I'm fine for everything below 2km, but when it get longer than that, it just feel bored and sleepy (many of the tunnels actually have painting on the wall to try keeping the drivers focused, although I prefer counting the emergency exits to keep me awake ). Plus the sunlight we get when we are coming out of the tunnel really hurts my eyes, as I already got used to the darkness inside the tunnel after a couple of minutes inside, even when they were already making it as bright as possible.

But I agree with the huge cut - a tunnel should be build there. Although I don't think tunnel was even an option for that section.

What's the meaning of that upper sign with the black dot? No stopping or something?

The one above the "Construction Zone Ends" sign? It's not a black dot. It's an octagon. The sign is a "No Stopping" sign. The two little arrows indicate that you can't stop on either side of the sign.

Pics of hwy 97 between Penticton and Kelowna. four laned in 2010, the biggest rock moving project in BC's history, although I'm sure it'll soon be overtaken by the kicking horse.

Actually, the construction of the Coquihalla Hwy, was the biggest rock moving project in BC history. 5 million cubic meters of rock was blasted during construction.

Because it's not a motorway. There are a lot of 4 lane sections like that in BC. If conditions warrant it, a barrier can be added quite easily.
