I finally made a good night video!

This thing is near-impossible to film during the day due to congestion.

I have made a timelapse of Highway 403 between Hamilton and Mississauga, showcasing the HOV lanes.

It is true that the stretch between the QEW and 407 ETR is to be widened, correct? HOV lanes part of this plan by chance?

My video of the worlds busiest highway, 401 in Ontario:

Filmed from a 2014 Mercedes S500. Hope you like it, got some more footage from the Don Valley Parkway and the Gardiner Expressway through downtown Toronto!

Gah sorry! I forgot this site doesn't automatically resize. Made a smaller pic and provided a link to full size.

A new 3 lane roundabout on Highway 406 in Welland has opened: http://www.wellandtribune.ca/2013/09...aws-spectators

Video of the highway... with a fail about 20 secs in on the roundabout:

A three-lane roundabout? I find it horrifying that such a monstrosity exists on the same side of the Atlantic as me. I've just been looking at the roundabouts thread and the two-laners seem bad enough. I'll remember to avoid the area. (And why does a 400-series highway have roundabouts at all?)

And a "fail," you say? I don't have time to watch a 16-minute video right now, but you should post that in the roundabouts thread!

EDIT: I realized on rereading the "fail's" 20 seconds into the video, not 20 seconds into the roundabout, which I thought at first might be anywhere, so I did watch it.

Read the article too: love the idea of people setting up a tailgate party to watch it....

I can't believe it. So much fuss about simple bloody roundabout

I loved some of the comments under the article in the local news.
People were basically expected the gates of hell to open and they are a bit surprised that the end of the world didn't happen

"Simple"? Three lanes?

I'm going to take the liberty of copying this roundabout discussion over to the Roundabout Thread and respond to it there.

It is the terminus of the 406, if that helps. Up until recently the 406 was the only 400 series highway to have level crossings, but work in recent years has fixed that, and this roundabout is at the terminus of that new work.

So it doesn't actually interrupt the freeway. (I believe I've actually been on the 406 - trying to get from Fort Erie to Niagara-on-the-Lake without going through the Falls. But that was 20 years ago.)

What was there before - lights?
I'm being a bit tongue-in-cheek in my first reaction ("horrified" and "monstrosity") but are roundabouts the latest fad among traffic engineers and are they worth the trouble?

There was an intersection beforehand. But that was when there was only one carriageway was opened (so both ways on 1 side of the future highway), now both carriageways of the 406 are opened.

Yes it is the terminus of Highway 406 in Welland. The highway is being twinned for the whole route to the QEW and itersections are slowly being replaced with interchanges.

The 406 to my knowledge is the only 400 series highway to have at-grade rail crossings and intersections, but is labelled as 400-series because it is planed to be a true freeway one day.

Diagram of that roundabout for those interested:

Another batch of new photos, this time from a new roundabout that was recently constructed west of Hamilton at the junctions of Highways 5 and 8.

As usual, more and larger:

If you mean the Macdonald-Cartier Freeway, it's another name for Highway 401, which crosses the province of Ontario: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ontario_Highway_401

To my knowledge there is only 1 M-C Freeway sign left, on the median separating the westbound collector and express lanes by Pearson Airport:

They are not being replaced. The 401 has some other names too. Highway of Heroes between the 404 and Trenton and Right Honourable Herb Grey Parkway in Windsor (401 extension to US Border Crossing with Detroit).

They also no longer put "The King's Highway," correct?
