Nope, its UEFA net capacity (=during the Euro) is: 47,882 seats.
Its 50K+ cap. is the gross one (=during the non-UEFA Euro or non-UEFA Finals events)

About these capacities, you can take a look of the recap I made for the 11 Euro 2016 host stadiums on post #2911.

Lille is under Lyon , marseille and st denis in term of capacity then they shouldn't been allowed to bid for semi finals

But who cares? Till the 1/4 fianls the stadium will be exposed correctly during the competition.

Plus Lens may probably retire their bid (ridiculous after the forcing of their president to be in the list)

Lille should take more matchs in the north who know

Lens has financial problems -> the global renovation was around 110 millions euros and now they don't have the money.

The bank which owns the club refuses to put more on the table and the municipality due to the economic crisis want to slow their participation.

Only one person continues to hope desperatly-> the president of RCL gervais martel

Nancy renonce

Cowards or wise men! All the clubs of eastern France are struggling whether they play in league 1, 2 or National! Upgrading facilities is always nice but you have to be able to make a business case for it! With clubs all struggling the case is harder to make!
I have to admit that no Euro 2016 stadium in eastern France is a bit ridiculous though!

wise?

What is wise in this story? why to propose to bid for an event and change decision after ?

Do you want lille or marseille say "we want euro 2016...oh wait we have changed our opinion and don't bid for 2016"

For me the cities which honour france are:

-Lille
-Marseille
-Nice
-St etienne

The ones which have abandoned whereas they presented the renders of their project are just cowards cities.

i know that economic crisis is there but why to present your city in this bid then?!

i propose UEFA retire 2016 to France and give it directly to germany as a reserve country for major events.

Our bid is just a shame!

I really wish euro 2016 to be abandoned for france. We doesn't deserve it.

Only cities which actually build their stadium will be competitive regarding what is a 21st century stadium is.

What?

i have my opinion
Express yours rather criticize me easily

I repeat the abandoned projects are a shame for our country when you know that UEFA gave us this euro whereas turkey made their bid.

it is a biased candidature now

Only the projects u/c represent proudly our country. If you are not ok it is your freedom of opinion but respect mine.

De toute façon avec la folle "taxe hollande" ces stades vont être désertés,les droits tv baisseront car tous les bons joueurs seront partis...Je sais pour qui je ne voterai pas en tout cas pour éviter ce "massacre"

Uh!!! WTH? what's with your avatar! I almost freaked for a nanosecond here!

Ok ok! Just chill!

Metz not upgrading is really a non event anyway! And I'll say it again there are enough sites to host this Euro anyway!

Lille is nearly done, Lyon, St Etienne, Nice, Marseille, Bordeaux have all started! St Denis is already up to standards and so is Paris I heard (with or without refurbishment)! If we add Toulouse that makes 8 cities for what... 24 nations! Ergo 6 groups of 4 or 8 of 3! Two games per stadium and per day, done done! It's a Euro, in a country that's small enough we don't need 24 stadium.

I think you're being too harsh Axel. From what I've seen I'm sure they will be great venues. It will be a great tournament back in Western Europe.

Before I continue I should apologise for the bump, but something got me thinking.

France held the world cup in 98 but it's infrastructure, short of stade de France and the Lille stadium has to be revamped completely. Just an illustration of how far the Euro's have come, in 96 we held the tournament.

Most of those stadiums have either become dilapidated/obsolete, rebuilt, or renovated/upraged beyond recognition.

^ agreed. I get the feeling that during Euro2016 it will be difficult for me to connect the feelings given by the new event to my memories of WC1998. There will be new four stadiums (Lille, Nice, Lyon, Bordeaux), two redeveloped stadium (Marseille and Saint Etienne), with only Toulouse being more or less the same and Stade de France as the chrono anchor towards 1998 and Parc des Princes towards 1998 but more towards 1984 IMO. Not sure if Lens will take part eventually or not.
