Still a bit of Dutch road left in this picture. Crossing that border between Maastricht and Liege is like driving into a complete different world. The only border crossing out of Holland I feel that way....

Jeesh, those roads have been badly patched up. I wonder what they're spending their budgets on...

England to Norway, Belgium stretch

It's getting a little dark now, so the quality is not all that good.

E40

I'm getting off due to congestion

E17 between Gent and Antwerp

Large tailbacks reported on Antwerp ring, so I'm heading towards Bergen op Zoom

Approaching Dutch border:

You lovely jubely's are in for a treat tonight. I've just uploaded my first YouTube video. I had my wife (girlfriend at the time) with me who was videoing this and just did a tour UK-France-Italy-Germany-UK doing deliveries and collections. This is on the way back to the UK somewhere in Belgium on the E411 after Luxembourg. I must have been a happy chappy because I was singing. Sorry about that. You'll briefly see my face as well.

Hi,
I was trying to find some information but better just ask here. What's up with the A19 outside Ypres? Why has it not been completed? How long for? Are there any plans in place to finish? (I am guessing it will merge with A18 somewhere around Veurne?)

In 2005, the Belgian government decided the A19 will never be completed.
The highway runs through the Pilkem Ridge battlefield where tens of thousand Britisch and German WWI soldiers are still buried today alongside with who knows how much artillery grenades.

Is it dictated by some safety precausions? Although i can't see why using today's technology it is not doable?
Or is it more sentimental/historic issue?

Carriageway reconstruction, Antwerp - The Netherlands' Border.

This is how the carriageway looks like further down.

So they are finally reconstruction the old worn concrete on the E34....I'm surprised. I thought it was going to rot untill there was only a gravel road left

The exit signs looks new, but it's been there for many years.

Mostly a sentimental/historic issue. Instead the existing N8 will be upgraded a bit (but it will not be a motorway) with local bypasses:

This map shows the bigger picture, as you can see the French A25 is an alternative:

Would you like me to make a few more comments about Belgian motorways? That'll get this thread going again...

At least they have the N74:

It seems that no major planned projects are taking off, except for the A11 construction north of Brugge.

Although Belgium has invested a lot in renovating the motorways, very little capital expansion projects have taken place over the past 10 years. They opened some shoulder running, but congestion is going out of control due to the lack of capacity expansion projects.

The 'Oosterweel Connection' in Antwerp seems to drag on forever. It seems close to construction from time to time, but never actually gets around to that. The same counts for the expansion of R0 around Brussels. Not to mention the horrible E313.

How far west is the A11 supposed to go?

It's not an extension of the existing A11. The new sections runs from N31 to Westkapplle (12km; OSM).

I've no idea if the A11 gap will ever been closed, for instance by upgrading the N49!?
