Huge problems on E19 motorway

On the E19, just north of the city of Antwerpen, 2 trucks burned, and caused a total closure which still lasts.
Around 8 am, a truck was overtaking another truck and crashed into the other truck. The roadway towards Antwerpen is closed, and the 20km traffic jams is now lasting already 7 hours.

On of the trucks carried plastic, which caused the asphalt pavement to burn, the roadway came up 30 cm, also the under pavements are destroyed. The problems could well last another 24 hours.

Traffic is being detoured in the Netherlands over the A17 and A4 motorways towards the Belgian A12 motorway. However, that route is also jammed near the port of Antwerpen. The entire region north of Antwerpen is gridlocked for most of the day.

Jep. I think it might be even the busiest motorway-border-crossing in Europe, with an AADT up to 70.000

It's better than letting traffic pass by. Be happy it's happened near the border. At Rotterdam the A16 is more than 3 times busier. And there's an alternative here for traffic to Belgium ((A17) A58, A4)

I didn't happened quite near to border, but in the first Antwerpen suburb, some 25km south of the border.

The accident happened in Sint Job in 't Goor. (you don't want me to make a translation; "Saint Job in the disgusting").

I think motorways in Belgium are very good and my favourite is Gent Ringroad, but it is probably expressway called R1 or R0

The Ring of Gent is called R4.

R0 = Brussels Ring
R1/R2 = Antwerp Ring

N72 Leopoldsburg - Beverlo - Beringen - Zolder - Zonhoven

It's been a while since we've seen some pics from Belgium. This time some non-motorways, an ordinary highway in the province of Limburg (not to be confused with the Dutch province of Limburg).

The N72 is the connection between Leopoldsburg and Hasselt, and goes through a very urbanized countryside. Though there are houses everywhere, it doesn't have any large city.

N73 Kessenich - Kinrooi - Bree - Peel - Hechtel-Eksel - Leopoldsburg

The N73 is the East-West connection in northern Limburg. It connects Leopoldsburg with several communties towards the Dutch border. This serie goes west. The section between Hechtel-Eksel and Leopoldsburg consist of very old concrete slabs.

5 trucks, including 4 tanker trucks crashed near Gent on the E17. Check out the load of trucks on the background of the scene!

That hard shoulder looks smoother than driving lanes.

Well, Belgian shoulders often lack a proper foundation to handle traffic. So, in case of roadworks, they cannot use the shoulder as a second lane, and have to narrow the road to one lane only.

of course because all the trucks from Europe (except E, P, F and partially I) go to ferry in Calais via Belgium because it's cheaper to pay belgian toll than french
