A small cargo van crashed into a truck in a traffic jam on E313, east of Antwerpen. The driver was killed and the cargo van was 1.5 m shorter.

Few hundred meters further in the same traffic jam:

I think motorbikes should not be allowed on highways. They present both a challenge for other drivers (small, difficult to see, sometimes driving in the middle of two queues to escape a jam) and for their own drivers. Mild accidents that would result in no personal injury and not even total loss of cars can easily and promptly kill someone on a motorbike, regardless of helmets.

Of course Motorbikes should be allowed on Motorways! They are manoeuvrable, they accelerate quickly, can brake quickly and, generally, can avoid accidents much more easily than car drivers. If a car driver can't see a motorbike, they shouldn't be driving if their eyesight is that poor.

I agree with svartmetall. If we were to follow Suburbanist's ideas, we should ban trucks also because they're heavy, or cars+caravans, because they aren't manoeuvrable, or 2-deck buses because they can easily roll over.

It's not the type of vehicle we should ban, but certain type of drivers.

Another thing is, most motorbike and delivery vans' drivers do drive in a dangerous way.

Once again a huge crash on E17 between Gent and Kortrijk. At least 4 trucks and 2 passenger cars crashed, 1 truck driver was killed. The crash caused a full road closure, traffic trapped behind the last exit had to wait at least 4 hours.

To fast, to close and to much truck traffic, as always....
I would rather see more cargorail. But unfortionallt cargorail is really bad in Belgium and has only gone downwards over the years.

There is not capacity on rails, let alone infrastructure to transhipment to deal with it. You'd need to severely cut passenger rail traffic to accommodate freight rail traffic.

Or make a railline for freight only.
Between Liège and Antwerp is some freight rail traffic. If you need to wait like 30 min or so. Two freight trains will have passed. Most of the time they carry steel or cars.

I suspect that one of the major reasons why there are so few cabover type big-rig trucks in North America is that 'conventional' (engine in front) type rigs provide much better collision protection for the drivers.

The only cabovers that I see here are a few local short-wheelbase straight delivery trucks.

Nah, they can just let it dry and then scrape it off like they'd do with road lining that they need to remove. Of course it'll be a lot of work, but I think there's not really another option.

As for the road in Wallonia in the post above: didn't anybody there think "well, isn't this a bit overkill?" Can't say I've seen anything like that before...

For viewing ease, here's the video directly in the page:
