Nice videos about R2 and E420, they show how bad maintained are Belgian roads.

Later on, Catalan regional government used this as an argument for lowering speed in motorways in Barcelona metro area from 120 to 80 km/h. The measure is now (fortunately) gone, but I wonder what happened with Flemish motorways. How long did that last? Did it apply to all the network?

Thank you all
It's applied only when the air quality reaches a critical level. Especially with fine dust particals. The measurement is called smogalarm.

R2 is unfortionally a toll road with low traffic. Anyway still in very bad shape. Btw I bet if they did a study bewteen Wallonia and Flanders. Flanders woul come out 'ok' in Highway quality. Nevertheless not only the pavement counts but also other things in wich our highways lack.

I just drove on R2 today. Bad choice, twice.

I was driving southbound on A12 (coming from Netherlands).

Then, I say a MVS indicating an accident in Erken just before the interchange A12 X R2. I took R2. Besides lengthy repaving works before the tunnels (which I knew of), the exit ramp was closed on Beveren interchange direction Anvers. The Anvers - Kennedytunnel ramp was also closed.

Hence, I (and everybody else) had to drive westward, there was a HUGE jam on the right lane as everybody was trying to make a U-turn in Vrasene. TomTom was showing 27 min waiting time on the overpass and ramps.

So I just gave up, drove up to St. Nikolaas via N403, then N16, then A12 then Bruxelles finally

I have a question... Almost everyday on E34 I can see more than 2-3 truck tires laying in the middle of motorway... Today huge part was just in between left and right lane! Who is responsible for maintenance and cleaning the motorways in Flanders?

One of the British-accented* commentators on the U.S. coverage of the Tour de France on Sunday remarked that Wallonia's roads are better than Flanders': Flanders has too many cobblestones.
;-)

I see. Our TV news exaggerated that though, saying that it affected all the Flemish motorway network, and they didn't obviously mention that it is a temporary measure just in case smog levels are too high.

That's exactly what happens in motorways in Barcelona metro area. Speed limit may still be cut to 80 km/h in variable speed limit-equipped motorways when PM10 levels are out of control, which may happen once or twice a year. Still far from the madness between 2008 and 2011, when motorways had an 80 km/h speed limit regardless of pollution levels.

Not only E34, E313 also. Very high truck traffic volume 24h a day and besides that they should clean more ofthen but I have no idea who is responsible.

It happens more ofthen in Belgium like 10 times a year or so. Mostly on very cold or very hot days with stationairy air mass.

Saturday late afternoon drive through Antwerpen Port

While travelling around the city, I took a detour from the highway through the major port access road (N101).

It was incredibly quiet, barely any traffic.

Entering the "new docks" area

Sluice gate crossings

More N101

I have no idea what U and S stand for

Mixed road-railway bridge with wooden cover

The place looked like a dystopian movie scenario

Bridge just before the Dutch border and access to A4 (NL)

I've made 3 new vids .

1. A604 nearby Liège, a short connection between the E42 and the Meuse valley in Seraing:

2. A602/E25 trough Liège:

3. E42 freeway from Namur (Spy) to Liège (Loncin). A quite old-fashioned route!

Some random pictures I made the same day:

E17 Antwerpen - Gent - Kortrijk - Rekkem (F)

E17 Antwerpen - Rekkem (F)

I photographed the entire E17 from the city of Antwerpen (Antwerp) to the French border at Rekkem. Nearly the entire E17 is a six-lane facility. I had the opportunity to photograph the road with the sun in the back, which gave some quite good photos. All photos were taken between 7 and 8 am. (I left Zwolle at 5 am).

Part I: Antwerpen - Gent:

Bedankt!

The "Gentbrugge" sign with no arrow or route number or anything on the left-hand side of the road in number 37 is doing what? Never seen one like that.

How do you say "fuel" in Dutch?

Brandstof - literally "burning substance" if you mean fuels in general, benzine and diesel for gasoline/petrol and diesel respectively if you mean the fuel types. In French diesel is also called "gazole", I've seen both in France.

Yes, I wanted the general word: what the fuel-tank symbol on a services sign would stand for in words.

Thanks.

That sign is only there because of the "Genste Feesten" That's a whole week of bands giving performances in the inner city of Ghent with douzens of podia and a lot of bands and street theather without any podia, with aftherparties each day. It brings over a hundred thousand people to Ghent each day.

It ended last week. http://www.gentsefeesten.be/en

He means the Gentbrugge city limit sign. It's quite weird. Maybe it's the name of the viaduct they displayed there.
