I don't know exactly, I think we had Antenne Bayern on our way to Slovenia, but I don't know about the way back.

A7 Schweinfurt - Kassel

Click on the title to view the full 118 picture set

Will the neverending photostream ever stop? The answer is: no
This set follows A7 north from Schweinfurt all the way to Kassel, 170 kilometers to the north. These pics are from august 2008 and june 2009, in case you wondered. I only make a selection, because 118 pics is too much to show in a post.

route:

A8 München-Bad Reichenhall

Again, these pics aren't good, but probably better than the previous series. The pictures have been taken on two different days. One more or less sunny afternoon, and one rainy morning.

1. We're following Salzburg

2. Small jam (the 5 km one ), caused by road works

3. Seen in the mirror

4. 2×2. It wasn't very busy here, but somehow this motorway feels like it's always busy

5. 2×3 without shoulder

6.

7. 2×2 again, and a new road surface. The old Reichsautobahn concrete seems to be gone completely

8. After Dreieck Inntal Bad Reichenhall and Salzburg are the control cities.

9. Next morning - rainy weather. I only made a few pics over here because it was often raining

10. Dark

11. 2×2 without shoulder

12. Last picture

That's it!

I was thinking about the Autobahnring (A99) around München.

This most direct route would run through large forests... I think a somewhat longer, more southern/western route would be better.

@ A 99:
The problem is that the whole south of Munich is a recreational area which they can't destroy. If they choose a route near the villages, large parts would need to be in tunnels.

Choose your favourite out of 11 routes which are left oficially (used to be 95 routes):
http://www.abdsb.bayern.de/imperia/m...omprimiert.pdf

However, the final results should be presented this year, afterwards the government decides if they're going to build it one day or not.

I like the idea of letting motorists know just how long the 2X3 stretch will be- it must be especially important on a high-speed road like a German Autobahn.

Some of your questions to be answered:

A3: yes, it will be an upgrade to 3 lanes with shoulders in each direction. Thus the roadworks there which will last until 2015/16 for the Aschaffenburg - Würzburg section alone

A8: the whole road between Inntaldreieck and Salzburg shall be upgraded to 6lanes plus shoulders, too. First will be the section between Inntaldreieck and Bernau (Chiemsee). The plannings for the rest aren't officially allowed by the federal government (not the necessary priority) but still ongoing. Even environmentalists support an upgrade of this Autobahn (but only the addition of shoulders, and not two additional lanes).

Hmm...it's not just in the USA that people drive in the left lane without intent to pass. They even do it in on the Autobahn.

It looks like semi-truck etiquette is pretty good, though, with most staying in the right lane no matter what.

Cheers, and great photos.

Most people on the left do not pace the right lane, like in the USA, but generally drive significantly faster than the right lane (100 miles per hour or more).

I don't like when some crazy fools on Autobahn are overtaking everyone doing 200+ km/h, it's stressing

In many cases trucks can overtake.

I don't mind people overtaking with 180 km/h, but what I don't like is that when I'm overtaking a series trucks on a 2×2 motorway (say, A3 Würzburg-Nürnberg, with lots of trucks), that the fat Audi behind me keeps no distance and is sort of pushing me forward. Especially when I'm driving 130 or sth.
