Surely no shortage of signs here... which is quite a good thing

I was quite surprised to see a 120km/h speed "limit" on what essentially was a slip road... that speed would not be allowed even on the best US Intestates...

Entering A8. For some reason all cars in the front slowed down even though there didn't seem to be any obstacles or speed limitations in place

111km to go

The standard of the autobahn in this stretch is far from perfect. I guess it hasn't been significantly upgraded since 1930 or so. Still it was acceptable and we drove at about 140km/h while many others did 170km/h or more

Time to have a McDonald's. I was quite surprised to see such a nice McDonald's... decoration and interior was lovely... in fact, it looked more like a higher class restaurant. Staff was very nice and polite too... or is it because I got too much used to England?

Back into the 1930's... no hard shoulder, sharp turns and gradients... speed is limited to 120-130 though... or not limited at all

Can this be called an Autobahn?... looks more like a Polish "gierkowka" (i.e. shit motorway)

It sure can! And we were NOT the fastest ones over there . Seriously, German driving discipline is amazing... managing extreme speeds while doing it with maximum safety on a not-so-good road

End

I have to add that overall driving experience in Germany (only my 2nd so far) is amazing. By far the best and easiest driving experience of any country I have driven in. The infrastructure is amazing too and quality of roads is something others should envy (with some small exceptions). The A8 (and some other old stretches of Autobahn) should be upgraded though.

That is what I like. Just one important German destination among 8 of them - hence 7 important foreign destinations. Most countries would rather have written 6 unimportant villages and two foreign destinations, if not only name of the country.

BTW, I'm curious whether the exchange of these signs?

Loved your little trip report and pictures, Pansori!

Oh, and btw, that sign means "end of all restrictions".

Means end of speed limit. My favorite sign.

Nice trip Pansori.

NO!

In Germany it means:
Quote:
End of all restrictions
This sign cancels all previous speed limit and passing restrictions; however, the general speed limit applies
In many European countries it means the same. Only land in Europe which I know, where this sign says what you mistakenly suggested is Great Britain.

sure you are right
But on the autobahn it basically means acceleration and joy. No general speed limit. That is what most people care about.

As there is no general speed limit on Autobahnen in Germany, unless posted, this sign on the Autobahn basically means there is no speed limit.
