They made a bypass for the smallest "leaf" of the cloverleaf... but still, some of the turns of the other leafs look quite sharp...

In Google Earth you can set back the time to year 2000, and see how this interchange looked before (it was actually u/c at that time)!

From Saturday on the whole A2 (473 km) from Kreuz Oberhausen to Dreieck Werder will be 2x3!
The last section near Kamen will open.

GREAT!!!

Is this the longest 2x3 highway stretch in Europe?

Likely. A9 will overtake that once the final section is widened to 2x3 lanes.

The UK has a lot of 2x3 motorways too, but their routes are shorter.

A1 in Italy will eventually feature 2x3 lanes as well over more than 700 kilometers.

Wow ! Finally !

So this also means: no more roadworks for a while & no more speed limits anymore on most of A2, right ?

"Richtgeschwindigkeit" should be the default system in all EU motorways & expressways & lane indiscipline should be harshly fought! Down with radars on motorways!

There is still a weekend closure needed in the spring to apply the final layer of porous asphalt. This cannot be poured during the winter because you need temperatures above 10 degrees.

Certainly not. Any road surface requires maintenance from time to time. So, there will always be road works here and there.

Wobbly Wheel (A38/A380 south of Exeter) to Abington is no turnings off heading north (two coming south) and only drops down to 2 lanes in your direction through 4 junctions (M5 J31, M5 J15, M5/M6 transition, M6 J32). It's 408.5 miles.

The Folkestone (M20 J12) - Abington (A74(M)/A702 junction) motorway route (including using the Dartford Crossing) is all D3M, other than through M6 J32 and the M25/M1 and M25/M20 transitions. You do have to turn off in both directions to get on/leave the M25. Plus the M1/M6 (though they are three lane slip roads, or at least were). That's 441 miles, or 710km.

Without turning off the M6-M6Toll-M6-A74(M) route between Catthorpe and Abington would come close - with one short 4 lane section through M6 J32, it is 282 miles (453.8 km), but sadly doesn't have one number.

Harz mountains

I'll post a handful pictures of a Berlin-Tilburg trip I took in October. The pictures are only from the Harz mountain area in full fall colors.

Rappbode dam causeway (200m+ high)

Over the Rappbode Dam, there is a causeway and immediately after a tunnel. It is a through route. The dam is very high and the views from there are stunning!

Is the Forestry road open to the public? It's far better quality than the Forestry/Logging roads roads where I am.

Is there any plan to upgrade the E44 between Koblenz and Giessen?
