Is there much traffic between Koblenz and Giessen diverting south to Frankfurt to stay on the autobahnen?

It's accurate also for my experience. I found much traffic near Leipzig on the A9, but I've driven there only once so it's not statistically significant.

I expect the A9 to get more traffic as Poland extends the A4 to the UA border and the S8 from Wroclaw to Lodz.

Well, of course it's accurate, it's based on traffic counts and advanced computer models.

The 2011 - 2015 investment programme was also released about a week ago. It was clear the focus was on improving the existing road network and not so much on new motorways. The most expensive new project was the A44 Kassel - Eisenach, but the rest are short links, for example only 3 subsections of the A20 were included, and not much of A14 and A39 were included.

However, it remains a mystery to me why Germans start a motorway construction project without having all finances together. This week it was known that the A30 Bad Oeynhausen was delayed by another 2 years, and will open late 2015 or early 2016. Mind you, construction began in 2008 and it's only a few kilometers.

As long as they keep the A38 clear. In my view it's the best way to travel between Calais and southern Poland (A4). I've used it a few times, and find it a great road to drive on. (Calais-Gent-Antwerp-Venlo-Dortmund-Kassel-Leipzig and join A4 at Dresden). I'm surprised that it is so quiet, compared to the other major link road to central Poland, the A2.

You mean A12 ? It is not that quiet, but there's less traffic than on German A2 and A10.

German A13/A15 (Berlin-Cottbus-Olszyna) is also very quiet, but here it's less surprising as driving on the Southern carriageway of DK18 from German A15 to Polish A4 is just a nightmare.

Most of the traffic jams I had on German A2 were around: Gelsenkirchen, Hannover, Brunswick (Braunschweig). Next on Southern A10 (Berliner ring).

Antenne Bayern just announced that a Geisterfahrer is coming on the motorway from Pilsen towards Nürnberg in the wrong direction, and asked drivers not to overtake or drive side by side...
LE: Seems the driver left the motorway, nothing bad happened.

Think that listening Antenne Bayern is worse than meet a Geisterfahrer

German radio stations are in general boring like the soft-mainstream charts here. I prefer to stream with my mobile some dutch and french stations.

For me every German speaking station or TV channel is good, so that I practice my German, I won't speak it like in RO only with 1-2 family members or friends. But we can end the off-topic here .

Seconded.

I sure hope nobody is checking SSC for wrong-way drivers. At least as dangerous as being the Geisterfahrer.

No, most traffic of this relation is using B49 from Limburg (A3) to Gießen (A5/A45). This road is currently upgraded to 2+2.

The traffic volume map correlates well with my own experience in southern Germany.

But I am surprised that traffic between Berlin and Hamburg is so low.
