I also have the same opinion. Some shots of mine from the backseat of my parents car, so some degree of zoom involved:

A 10 kilometer, two-lane section of A98 opened in southwestern Germany today.

Now showing open on Apple Maps, though designated E54 rather than A98.

Which part? It ranges from 39.000 to 146.000 vehicles per day.

German roads are generally not that bad that a map is necessary to indicate pavement status.

By the way, a bilingual legend would make sense as this map is mainly interesting for those unknown to the road (such as foreigners).

I understand. It's hard to disagree, the infrastructure in this country is at a high level, not what in Poland. I heard somewhere that the national roads in Germany are in a similar state as in Poland, but it's probably a lie. I wanted to do a comparison, because we know that the roads in Poland are in poor condition.

You need a whole network of active road users to compile and update such a map. This is feasible in Poland (Polish highway section is the biggest road forum in the world to my knowledge), but German road enthusiasts appear less active. Autobahn-online does not have that many active members and this thread on SSC is mainly filled by non-Germans admiring their Autobahnen.

I traveled quite on some national, regional and local roads in Bavaria and Baden Württemberg and I have to say they were 95%-99% in good condition.
Very big contrast to what I know in Romania.

But why would anyone want to admire a German Autobahn? Quality wise, the ones in France are far more superior. Speed? Is getting your vehicle up to 240 for a few minutes really such a big deal? I reckon its because Germany is the gateway to the west for eastern Europeans.

Speed, yes. Not because I want to drive 240 (I have never driven faster than estimated 190km/h), but because of the freedom that comes with it: driving on a motorway where you can just drive, looking out of the window without having to bother about speed limits was a very enjoyable experience last summer.

Can't follow you. Today newly built motorways have a similar standard worldwide. Maybe central Europe is slightly ahead. But only a little bit.

But that's my point: there is hardly any freedom on the Autobahns in Germany. Your freedom to drive as fast as you want either gets tampered by dropping down to 80 due to noise reductions, roadworks or congestion, or parts that are downgraded to set limits as low as 60. And the aggression, and your awareness that you have to maintain on their motorways, due to oncoming overtaking vehicles are unbelievable. Wouldn't you rather do a steady 130/140 in France all the way, and a chance to enjoy the countryside, with little or no aggression on the roads whatsoever?

I can't follow you. Ever been to Belgium?

Central Europe is not ahead. USA is not ahead. Belgium and Poland are way behind. And a lot of German roads are really bad...
