Thank You all so much for advising.
This is a really good community of drivers.
I really appreciate your comments.

I'm looking forward planning my route in details, I mean how many brakes and where I will do them at roadside rest areas.
Please if You are familiar with A3/A45 route tell me which rest areas are the best.
I mean for example are there any places where some can grab a shower while on the road?
Or do you know any special rest areas which you prefer because of some special service that you like(d) to use?

Do you consider this speed reasonable for long hours driving keeping it constantly?
What do you know about passenger cars' average speed on this route?
It depends on the time of day.

Of course! But it is also depending on the traffic intensity.

20 percent of the AADT are trucks. Sometimes you have to pass twenty or more trucks consecutively. But there are no trucks on Sunday.

There is one location with signs at the beginning and another location at the end. Some sections does also have digital dynamic speed limits above the road.

Yes and no. Patrick is a "commercial map maker", but the Autobahnatlas is only his hobby!

Patrick got his information per e-mail or feedback in the German forum (pics, videos,...). The problem was, that the speed limits changed very often. E.g. many speed limits in Hesse were canceled in 2011. This was the point Patrick stopped updating the speed limits on his Autobahnatlas.

See here for a list of rest areas: http://autobahnatlas-online.de/A3.htm#Seligenst_45 (also with information about number of lanes etc.).

P* is with rest room, P w/o rest room.

Generally all A (Autohof) and TR (Tank+Rast).

All constructions has finished - and the Autobahn is unlimited . But there are still some limited sections, e.g. near "Raststätte Würzburg". The next construction will start in April.

No one knows. It has already been postponed several times. It is expected that this section is opened in summer 2013, but no exact information.

The next section from Borna-Nord to Rötha will get u/c soon.

The A71 between A38 and Heldrungen will be opened in May 2013.

Typically 50 cents, but it might be somewhat uncomfortable a way to spend a night.

No, the prices at sanifair (T+R) has increased to 70 cent. The use of rest rooms at PWCs are for free. The costs at Autohofs are variable.

But I guess, homeway wants to know, how much a night costs in a hotel room at roadside rest areas in D .

But when you are on sanifair, you'll get back a ticket with 50 cent reduction to spent in the shop (but remember the prices are much more than normal).

What kind of updates are you thinking about?

The construction for the 16th section of the A100 in Berlin will start this spring. It has a length of 3.2 km and costs about 480 million €. The latest info about completation is 2022.

I was just looking at the alternatives to drive to Hamburg from Ingolstadt. I'm planning to visit it sometime this year, maybe together with Rostock. Train is expensive like hell for 2 persons, even if booked in advance it still costs 79€ on way for one person. I would have liked it, because of no driving stress and shorter time though. But fuel for the stretch should also cost some 150-200€.

Google Maps gave me 3 alternatives.
I would like to go on one route and return on another, maybe also do a stop on the way.
What do you think.

The Autobahn has 1 tunnel, 3 lanes for each direction, route through the city, noise protection,...

But the most important reason for the long construction time are the costs. There are only 30 million € available in 2013 and 50 million € in 2014. And this money is a very big quotient of the German infrastructure budget.

A lot of money is need for preservation of the existing roads especially for the old bridges which were built in the 1960th. We do not have enough money for new roads projects. The number of new projects is very low in comparison to the demand.

30 million euro for all road constructions? In Italy you can build less than 1 km of autostrada with 30M.

Maybe you meant 30 billion? 3 billion?
