Is this true? Dresden has been deleted from Unesco World Heritage sites due to this bridge, opened up yesterday:

Yes, unfortunately it is true. I don't understand how this bridge ruins the view of Elbe valley, but UNESCO was totally against it from the beginning. There was a referendum in Dresden before the bridge was built and the result was 60-40 for the bridge.

No. Dresden has never been an Unesco World Heritage site. It was the Elbe valley which held this title and got it stripped off again.

At least they spent a small fortune for the protection of the Lesser horseshoe bat, a rare bat type which is supposed to live there. Bat-friendly lighting has been built and a 30 kph speed limit was introduced.

Nobody has ever actually seen a single bat there.

Some roadworks on A11 (reconstruction of a railway bridge):

Kreuz Ueckermark (km 81).

No more works on km 82,5-85, but one carriageway is closed.

Km 85.

And still nothing on km 86-90:

B246a, Schönebeck

A new cable-stayed bridge opened to traffic in Schönebeck, in the state of Sachsen-Anhalt. It spans the Elbe River and is part of the final link of the Schönebeck Bypass (B246a).

B50 Hochmoselbrücke

There is a large viaduct under construction that will span the valley of the Mosel River near Zeltingen-Rachtig. It is part of the B50 four-lane expressway that forms the only fast east-west route in the Hunsrück area. It is the only fast connection across the valley between Trier and Koblenz.

I've driven the alternate routes in this area, and the B50 is closed for trucks, the alternate route is steep and curvy (but B50 is worse). I think you can gain 15 minutes driving time crossing the valley, perhaps more for trucks.

The part between Kreuz Wittlich (A1/A60) and the western part of the valley was indicated on my ADAC atlas as finished in 2008, but it is still far from finished, and it looks like it won't open until 2016, when the bridge is slated to open.

A few photos taken from the vicinity. The area is quite scenic, there are lots of old towns and vineyards on the steep mountains.

A1 Köln

The new tunnel (roof) across the A1 in Köln. I hope the 60 km/h limit is not permanent.

I think not. From what I could see, this is similar to the tunnel on the A3 in Aschaffenburg. An there is no limit of 60 km/h. As far as I can remember it's 80 km/h.

80 seems to be the regular speed limit in all tunnels in Germany.

Ridiculously low. At least we know what the connection is with the German phrase "von 0 auf 100"...

In Switzerland I saw most tunnels are limited to 100, and some are km long.
In Germany you have no general limit on motorways, but ridiculous limits in tunnels .
At least there are not so many as in CH.

Most motorway tunnels in Baden-Württemberg are 100 km/h.

It's either 80 or 100, the speed limit can be raised if a tunnel fulfills a higher than standard level of security systems afaik.

I can think of Engelberg Basistunnel and Schönbuchtunnel in A81, Tunnel Herfatz, Echinger and Etterschlager tunnels in A96, Agnesburgtunnel and Virngrundtunnel in A7 and even Lämmerbuckel-Tunnel in A8. Wernerhof-tunnel in Ravensburg bypass is also 100 km/h.

Are there any plans to link A66 with A661 in Frankfurt? That would provide some alternative for traffic through A3...

Only the construction of the Riederwald Tunnel is an active project. It will connect A661 with A66 east of Frankfurt. A tunnel from the western part of A66 to A661 seems futuristic at this time.
