A1 Rhine bridge b/n Cologne and Leverkusen

http://www.strassen.nrw.de/service/p...140616-02.html

The maintenance works will last at minimum three month. The new damages are cracks in the cables ("Risse in den Seilkammern"). There are currently four speed control stations to monitor the abidance of 60km/h. It is also planned to install stations to control the weight. A breach costs 75 €. One truck stresses the brigde as much as 60,000 cars.

I do that at times, but when the air is as bumpy as last Sunday I prefer not to take my hand off the stick.

It was a Comco Ikarus C42 (chartered, not my own). In Germany this is categorized as "ultralight" plane.

Do they have any plans to improve B343 between Herzberg am Harz and Nordhausen?

Do you know if/when will Google Street View be expanded in Germany again?

German paranoia about privacy is just to high...
At least Streetview is available in some big cities. It helped me for example in checking out the neighborhoods of Frankfurt when searching for accommodation there.

I remember driving through the Harz area and it is still very noticeable how the quality of local roads drops dramatically on former DDR areas even after 20+ years after the commies went down.
Yes, there are plans to extend/improve the B243.

The B243 connects the A7 (AS Seesen) in Lower Saxony with the A38 (AS Großwechsungen) near Nordhausen in Thuringia.

Yes, google had time only to take pictures of the big cities until the nationwide sh!tstorm hit them.
The Streetview data of the big cities is already some years old and it won´t be updated in future. Besides that many buildings aren´t visible anyway.

The project page has announced 2014 since at least February 2012. It was modified to September 2014 in the meantime (click on "Ausblick").
The 4km section will be opened in late September 2014. The date depends on the time schedule of the Federal Minister of Transport, Mr. Dobrindt. The progess is better than planned b/c the winter was warm. The pavement is already completed. Compensation works, mounting of veterinary fences, and cultivation have been done during the past month. The road painting, guard railing and signposting works have been tendered, commissioned or even began. The installation of a bat flyover is not yet done. Source.

But is the problem affecting Google only, or is it forbidden by law for any company to collect imagery on streets and public ways?

For instance: the satellite and aerial images Google uses is collected by diverse entities. Google buys right to use them and put it on a nice interface (so does Bing and ViaMichelin as well).

Microsoft's Bing Streetside also collected imagery in Germany. They completely shut off their Streetside service for Germany in 2012, six months after they launched, following similar protests to Google Streetview.

A7 (north of) Hamburg

Construction begins shortly to expand the A7 in Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein. Construction will last 10 years to widen A7 across a 71 kilometer stretch between the Bordesholm interchange and the Elbe Tunnel.

Construction starts at a motorway bridge in Hamburg, that spans a railroad corridor. It will be replaced. Also, three new land tunnels will be constructed in Hamburg to reduce impact. These tunnels will require the most construction time, it is planned to widen A7 north of Hamburg in 4-5 years from 2014 to 2018, but construction in Hamburg itself will last longer.

A7 will feature 2x3 lanes from Bordesholm to Hamburg (A23) and 2x4 lanes through Hamburg.
The construction of the 1st of 3 Hamburg sections (north of river Elbe) has recently been started. The groundbreaking ceremony for the replacement of the "Langenfelder Brücke" took place on 16th June. The costs for 400m bridge are 80 million €. It will feature 2x4 lanes, see press release.

The tender for the 2x3 widening PPP project b/n i/c Bordesholm (A215) and i/c Hamburg-Northwest (A23) is now accepted (OSM). A consortium of HOCHTIEF PPP Solutions, DIF Infra and KEMNA BAU will begin the construction in fall 2014. The 65km A7 upgrade must be completed until late 2018. They have to maintain a 59km section b/n Neumünster-North and i/c Hamburg-Northwest for 30 years. The funding is a pilot project. The consortium does not lend money from a bank but from private investors. This kind of funding (Europe 2020 Project Bonds Initiative) is promoted by the EU, see press release.

Now some photos from A14, between Dreieck Schwerin and the end of the motorway near Wismar. At first, because of the works on the continuation of A14 towards Magdeburg we are rerouted on the national road 106 and we rejoin the motorway a few kilometers further.

1. On A24, we are taking the exit to national road 106:

2. Here we turn right in order to reach the motorway:

5. On the motorway, until Schwerin without shoulder and limited at 130km/h:

10. After Schwerin the motorway features also a hard shoulder. Traffic on the motorway was very light, it was also a free day, the 1st of may:
