Is it also 2x3 between Neusäß and Augsburg? At Google Earth it appears that A8 has 2x3 lanes up to B2, and then squeezes back to 2x2 lanes somewhat abruptly.

No, this section will be complated until September 2015. You can see on the time schedule which sections will be completed in 2014: http://www.pansuevia.de/sites/defaul...phasen%201.jpg (Ulm is on the left, Augsburg is right-hand; there are 6 sections).

Maybe a little off-topic, can you recommend me a safe and cheap parking place in Dresden in proximity to the city center, for weekends and holidays?

So I can't drive on an Autobahn or any other road in Germany and film it with my dashcam to show it to the world on youtube?
What about foreigners or tourists? Can they film German roads and publish their videos on youtube?

I was ok with the streetview ban but this is ridiculous.

There is an open house event on 23rd August 2014. The tunnel will be opened for traffic in fall 2014 (source).

A52 Gladbeck

MichiH, do you know if they considered this alternative for A52 in Gladbeck? I know they originally wanted to rebuild B224 into an semi-underground Autobahn, but this could also be an option to keep through traffic outside Gladbeck. The downside I see is that A2 would have to be widened.

It was seen as an alternative years ago but it is no longer an issue.

Is your post an trigger regarding the recent discussion?

Well, only the facts (w/o any NIMBY shit). The A52 project has four sections. It is planned to build a new 2x3 North-South-Autobahn in the middle of the Ruhr area.

7.1km between AK Essen-East (A40) and AK Essen-North (A42) (OSM; 736.3 million €): Preliminary design phase was abrupt
3.6km between AK Essen-North (A42) and Bottrop/Gladbeck city boundary (OSM; 65.5 million €): plan approval procedure on-going (since < 2011)
1.9km between Bottrop/Gladbeck city boundary and AK Essen/Gladbeck (A2) (OSM; 72.3 million €): plan approval procedure will probably be launched soon (see today's press release)
2.8km between AK Essen/Gladbeck (A2) and AS Gelsenkirchen/Buer-West (OSM; 67.3 million €): Preliminary design phase was abrupt (citizens' decision against the projects, discussion, discussion,....)

btw: The southern-most new A1 section in the Eifel was recently approved by the Federal Ministry of Transport. It's the 10km section b/n Adenau and Kelberg in Rhineland-Palatinate (OSM). The plan approval documents will be created now, the plan approval procedure will probably be started in 2015 (2nd attempt). Source.

The plan approval procedure of the northernmost section b/n Blankenheim and Lommersdorf in NRW (OSM; 6km; 45.6 million €) is on-going. The first procedure began in October 1985, the current attempt began in December 2012. The last section b/n Lommersdorf and Adenau (OSM; 8.7km; 123 million €) is still in preliminary design phase (it was announced in March 2013 that the documents should be completed till 2014).

Please refer to the general information on Straßen.NRW (A52 and A1).

What's happening on A8 between Rosenheim and Salzburg? Widening?

So basically, the whole stretch b/n Rosenheim and Salzburg is one big traffic jam because of 1,3km section u/c? Wow, I guess I'll stick to B21/B178 for a few more years.

Are the Austrians paying as well for this?

Why should?
From my observation there is that most cars go towards Munich, and maybe max. 20% go back to Austria towards Innsbruck.

Because it's part of the corridor that is also heavily used by Austrians and vital to our interest.

Exactly. It's the most important link connecting one part of Austria with the other bigger part.

It is insane how long these widening projects take in Germany compared to the Netherlands. Does NL pay more per km to get it done sooner?

I think it's more a matter of bureaucracy than money.

No, it's only congested during summer season. The u/c section does not have any important impact.

Then again so is every cross alps motorway we've built for Germany and Italy and they haven't contributed anything either.
