You know, deserted, no one had been there for some time. Just left there to become nature. Pripyat is an extreme case

The last time I drove there was 2 weeks ago. I can't remember seeing deserted gas stations. The ones along those quiet motorways are usually quite clean and well maintained, but empty.

The Germans have better facilitations for travelers than in the Netherlands. Since you can drive through our country in no more than a few hours, they expect you don't need a motel or extensive facilities.

Die Autobahnkirche, for example, yes. Our AC restaurants are pretty good though.

And I told you, it was 2002. A lot has changed since then. By the way, that day, it took me and my parents 7,5 hours to get to Bremen

7,5 hours for that distance? How come? I drove from Southern Denmark to Zwolle in 5 hours via Kiel in May...

Jams near Bremen. There was a heavy accident that we were just behind. Stood there for about 2,5 to 3 hours. Our way back from Copenhagen to Abcoude was easy in one day. Just the way to Denmark gave some problems

Never knew you needed one. Is that just inside cities? We discussed some of this in the Dutch section of SSC, but I didn't read the whole thread.

Probably under the law of E.U. about new highways/roads. New lanes here in Greece are wide like this pic.

Quote:
A2 Braunschweig Richtung Magdeburg
Zwischen As Braunschweig-Ost und Kreuz Wolfsburg/Königslutter 6 km Stau, Schneefall
Snowfall, winter has really started now

Quote:
A6 Mannheim Richtung Nürnberg
Zwischen As Bad Rappenau und Kreuz Weinsberg Baustelle, 5 km Stau, 9 km Stau für LKW
You see this quite often, 5km jammed for cars and 9 kilometers jammed for trucks. So if you approach the TJ, you'll first see a 4 kilometers line of stopped trucks on the right lane and then starts the traffic jam on the left lane.
Quote:
A12Berliner Ring Richtung Frankfurt(Oder)
Zwischen As Storkow und As Fürstenwalde-West Stau (LKW Rückstau derzeit 6 km) bitte vorsichtig an das Stauende heranfahren!
The traffic jam for trucks is even 6 kilometers here. (strange place, the A12 is usually not very busy).

Quote:
B45 Friedberg Richtung Hanau
Zwischen Bruchköbel B45/Unterführung Bruchköbel und As Hanau-Nord Verkehrsbehinderung durch umgestürzte Bäume
Falling trees are usual with heavy amounts of wet snow.

Quote:
B207 Fehmarn (Puttgarden) - Oldenburg
Brücke Fehmarnsund in beiden Richtungen Sturm, gesperrt für Fahrzeuge mit hohen Aufbauten , leere Lkw und Pkw mit Anhängern
Bridge closed for high vehicles, empty trucks and trailers because of the crosswinds. I experienced this myself once, and trucks can really be blown over during a gale on bridges.

[QUOTE=Timon91;27548556]Germany also has an extensive train network, which probably causes a slight decrease in road traffic. I mean, with the new ICE-line completed, the travel time between Köln (Cologne, Keulen) and Frankfurt has become less than an hour. By car it still takes two hours.[/QUO

How much percent of Germans travel by car and how much percent travel by train?

Hey I was looking back and I found this picture:

I was wondering if whoever took that picture could let me use it for an article that will be published on Autosavant.net for an infrastructure awareness article. Thanks!
