A small addition to the many pics of ChrisZwolle. These pictures of the A2 between Oberhausen and Dortmund were made a few weeks ago, also on a sunday.

01) The beginning of the A2 in Oberhausen.

02)

03) The enormous powerplant of Scholven (part of Gelsenkirchen) is visible in the background.

04) Notice the sign Stau, which warns for possible trafficjams. I assume these are not uncommon here.

05)

06) Pipes are here to remind you this is still a massive industrial centre.

07)

08) In the background we can see the coalmine Zeche Ewald on the left and the Halde Hoheward (a slag heap) with a large sundial on top. This is between Herten and Recklinghausen.

09)

10)

Some of those stretches look pretty old and kind of...well...American-ish. Are there plans to rebuild those areas?

They may look old, but AFAIK they're still in a relatively good state. First they need to redo the A30 near the Dutch border, that's a real mess.

Funny that you guys are saying about the age of the motorway! To me these pictures look very good indeed, even if they are a little old. Perhaps I've just become very used to the poorer quality road surface we get here and have forgotten what a decent road surface looks like!
