The modernization of D1 between Prague and Brno is something different as the carriageway needs to be enlarged by 0.75 m first.

D1 modernization km 153 - 162, credit to balance:

When should all the modernization/reconstruction of D1 be finished?

The reconstruction takes place between Brno and Vyškov. Every year few kms in one or both carriageways are repaired. The planing is ad hoc. I think that in two years the whole distance between Brno and Vyškov should be finished.

The modernization takes place between Brno and Prague. It is complicated process where the whole distance is divided into 25 sections.

Every year some 5 new sections should be opened for works. The optimistic scenario is that it should be finished in roughly 6 years.

I asked because I'm thinking of driving from Ingolstadt to Timisoara (or the other way around) also via CZ and SK instead of Austria. The route takes a little longer, not much, but the D1 from Prague to Brno was/is bad, so I avoided it.

Thought of driving it after the road is in better shape and not full of "Baustellen" and had no clue when that is going to be

I think that driving through CZ is not really suitable when starting anywhere south of Erfurth/Dortmund line while heading into destination southeast of CZ. (financially, time and comfort).

It could be worth if you want to visit some places though.

You guessed it .
Still have to see some places in CZ, like Brno, Olomuc, also I haven't been to north and center SK.

Prague stopped paying bills to Metrostav for the construction of the Prague inner ring tunnel complex Blanka and doesn't cooperate with Metrostav. Prague politicians argue that the contracts were not legal (as they did not went through right processes at the Prauge city hall) and basically are "afraid" to send any money to Metrostav or approve some changes to the project that are needed to finish the works. On the other side the contract was signed by the representatives of Prague at the time and Metrostav performs work for all those years based on this contract already.

Prague did not pay over 2 bln CZK already as the politicians jumped on it. To finish the structure and open it next year yet 1 more bln is needed.

It's quite a messy and stupid situation caused by previous Prague's political representation. There is no right solution. There clearly were some problems with the whole project, but jumping on it right now, will only delay the opening and will probably cause even higher costs than whatever would be paid right now.

As you can see from the videos in this article (there are two interesting videos in the article, skip the advertisement, and the talking heads) all the work on the tunnel is almost finished.

I read also an interesting calculation. If we take the costs of the tunnel and maintenance for 75 years, than every passing of a car (if AADT 60 000) will cost some 2 euro. The calculations come from Initiative Cyclist to Themselves though .

Maybe it is a kind of Prague politicians´ pressure to get some discount from Metrostav, as this move is really stupid when the project is almost finished.

Officially they are afraid to sign any payments as they are not sure if it is legally all kosher and they could get prosecuted. But if it is not legally ok, which they believe, why are not already now prosecuted those that signed the agreements in the first place? It's quite a mess. On one side it is good that politicians are getting scared, on the other side, this project goes on already 7 years and hardly anyone could blame the current politicians for it I would say. Anyway, it is good business for all kinds of law and consultant firms.

Was there something bigger planned here? It's the D1/I/50 interchange at Holubice (east of Brno).

As far as I know there was not any other plan. Interchange of D47 to Ostrava and D1 to Uherské Hradiště and Trenčín was planned a little bit to the northeast near Tučapy. I guess this is only because of heavy traffic in direction Brno - Slavkov - Uherské Hradiště and vice versa.

RSD released some figures about the truck tolls;

http://www.rsd.cz/doc/Informacni-ser...ne-prodlouzila

The projected 2013 revenue is 8.5 billion CZK, or just over € 300 million, which is a significant improvement over 2007, when the revenue was just 5.7 billion CZK. Long-term operating costs since 2007 have been brought under control and are just over 20% of revenue (which is still fairly high, but it used to be over 50% in the first years of operation).
