Yes, but not as urgently as D1 (between Prague and Brno) which is now undergoing reconstruction.

No, it won't be. It's just reconstruction to two almost 12 m wide carriageways to enable 4+0 during roadworks...

It has been reported in this forum that the replacement flyovers to accommodate the wider 2x2 reconstruction are sized to accommodate a possible future 2x3 road.

I know that the D1 is busy near Prague (up to I/3), but what's the AADT all the way?

Is the northern D3 route finally(!) defined now? Will it connect to D1 or to the Prague beltway (western route)?
If it will be connected to the D3, the D1 should be widened to 2x3 b/n D3 and Prague. If not, the D1 near Prague will be relieved.

I would not say so. Yes, it needs 3x3 all the way around Brno. But between Rosice and Mirošovice it is quite ok with 2x2. It is busy motorway, but not really overcrowded. There is bit more freight traffic, which makes it less comfortable for the not so high AADT, but in the hilly sections there are climbing lanes (running shoulders) so effectively it has 3 lanes there.

The AADT are not higher than 40 - 45 k, and there is not really commuting problem between Praha and Brno. There is a rush hour, but nothing extreme and mainly just in the sections near Praha and Brno (so it 3x3 makes sense there).

Full lenght 3x3 D1 would be nice, unnecessary, luxury. It would be much better to invest that money in R(D)35. This would alleviate several thousand AADT from D1 as well to counter the effect of rising AADT in time.

It would also be better to invest the money to finish the D1 in Přerov.

AADT: http://www.ceskedalnice.cz/prilohy/intenzity-2012.pdf
AADT interactive map of the Czech road network: http://scitani2010.rsd.cz/pages/map/default.aspx

I must say that in the past I thought it stupid that the D1 was not reconstructed into 3x3 but now I think it was a rational decision. I never saw the cost efficiency analysis though. And I reckon that some of the bridges, overpasses etc will be reconstructed so that they could accommodate 3x3 without a shoulder in the future.

It is mentioned in the videos of the R1, ie. post #2715.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Part of the D1, which section to widen is for the first 200 seconds.

Non-transit part of the D1 (yet).

Both alternative routes end at the Prague Beltway. Even the eastern route was expected to have an interchange with D1, not a simple split. But the fact is that the western route is now chosen for further proceedings (plan approval).

R(D)52 - A5

The border section between Czech R(D)52 and Austrian A5 will remain classic 2x1 road for now (section Pohořelice-Poysbrunn, 19 km in CZ and 15 km in A) as traffic intensity is not so high on that section (???), only Mikulov bypass will be built... Source: E15.cz

The current transit route instead of D1.

The route towards Ostrava / Opava (This is not the same in different dialects. ).

You're doing an awesome job documenting the Czech expressway network. Let me pay you a beer if I ever meet you

Well read it, because I already thought that almost everyone is bored.

At most alc-free, that not to be locked before the next documenting.

Prague inner ring (northwest) tunnel system Blanka should open on December 2 this year. We will see if they will be able to keep this date.

The bridge in Trója should open already on October 6.
