Guys, yes it is in the near of modernisation site. However, the reason could be accident, as on other modernisation sites there were no such jams at that time reported.

I35: July 2017 (4 months earlier)
D7: April 2018 (-)
D1: August 2018 (1 month later)
D3: February 2019 (5 months later)

However, the "ZS: Zahájení výstavby" dates (begin of construction) have also been changed for D1 and D3... Dunno if works really began later than reported in this thread.

On January 20, the 3,8 km of D3 Veselí nad Lužnicí - Bošilec section has been opened, for now just in half profile. Second carriageway together with the rest of the section should be opened in October. It is a continuation of some years opened section, thus approaching full motorway access of České Budějovice.

And here is drive at opened section:

Ministry of Transport published detailed map of sections planned to construction start this year. Quite a big priorities are first class roads, where amount of projects is almost the same as for motorways and motorways-like sections:
  • Numbers 1 -20 motorways (including D1 reconstructions and motorways maintenance center)
  • Numbers 21 - 37 first class roads

More six laned motorways. State will add new lanes on the D1 and D11

This article is from December, nevertheless describes present and future state of 3+3 sections of motorways in Czechia:

Quote:
December 10, 2016 9:09
Traffic on Czech motorways have risen so much that the classic arrangement of two lanes in each direction is no longer sufficient. Roads and Motorways Directorate (ŘSD) has started preparing an extension from four to six lanes on two very busy sections. It is a section of the D11 motorway from Prague to exit Jirny and the D1 motorway around Brno.

Photo: František Vlček, MAFRA

As first could be realised the expansion of the highway near Brno. ŘSD plans the construction in several phases, which are at various stages of preparation. All have had documentation for zoning decision. A few weeks ago ŘSD signed a contract with the DOPRAVOPROJEKT for the supply of documentation for the building permit for the stretch between exits Brno-center and Brno-south.

According to spokesman Jan Studecký is most advanced in preparation for the construction the connection of Brno Industrial Zone Černovická terasa to the D1 motorway. "For the first stage of the section we have a valid zoning decision. Zoning decision for the second stage comes into force yet, "said Studecký. Only on this section ŘSD calculates with the costs about 880 million crowns, construction start could begin in 2019.

Lanes extension of the motorway around Brno are actual for more than ten years, but only in recent years plans are moving to continue forward. The reason for increased interest may be getting more traffic: between exits Brno-center and Brno-south daily passes over 67 thousand cars, which makes the section one of the busiest in the country.

The shift also occurred in the case of plans to expand the D11 motorway from Prague to exit Jirny, located less than 10 kilometers from the capital. Plans already obtained opinion of the Ministry of the Environment, which in December is proceeded for the discussion with the public.

Extension will cover the oldest section of the D11, which is 8.3 kilometers long. Although in 2010 through this section passed about 30.000 cars per day, according to the last transport census 45.000. The increase does not end yet, because after the completion of the D35 motorway between Opatovice and Mohelnice created an alternative motorway route to Moravia, who divert some of the traffic from the D1 to D11.

So far, only three sections with six lanes

In the Czech Republic are still three sections of the six lane arrangement. One is the D0 Prague ring road, next the D1 motorway from Prague to Mirošovice and last also on D1 between Lipnik and Bělotín. The last section is yet very little busy - the third lane in each direction is essentially superfluous luxury.

Adding lanes may have an impact primarily on safety. According to Roman Budský from Team of Road Safety in our country we need such sections are šestipruhovým arrangements need much more. "From a security standpoint clear benefit, traffic is smoother. In the event of an accident or other incident may not be limited to a single traffic lane, " added Budský.

it is kind of hilarious to hear them consider the 'revolutionary six lane arrangement' when, elsewhere there is...

It´s not the "revolutionary", just a simple outline of the plans. Btw, the picture is from Canadian 401, the busiest road worldwide...

Žďákov bridge

Žďákov bridge, located on I/19 between Tábor and Písek is one arch steel bridge, that spans the Orlík Dam near the village with the chateau Orlík nad Vltavou. It became one of the dominant constructional features of South Bohemia. Some claim, that upon its completition, at the end of sixties, it was the largest plane solid one arch steel bridge in the world and although this statement lost its meaning in time, Žďákov bridge still holds one of the global tops.

The construction started in 1958 and finished in 1967. The bridge is 540 m long, the main arch spans 330 m. It stands about 50 m above water level and 100 m above the bottom of the valley. Longest arch span have steel truss bridges, concrete ones and ones with bridge deck in the middle, or at the bottom of the arch, where bridge deck thus serves as a rod for the whole bridge structure.

The bridge's name comes from the village Žďákov, which was flooded in this place. It links both banks of the Vltava river. Designed by Hutní projekt Praha with main parts were produced at Vítkovice steel plant. Žďákov bridge is currently under reconstruction, mainly repairing road surface and steel structure with planned finish in October this year. However, after road surface repair completition it can be driven from November last year.

There is no question, that North American roads are more busy, than european ones, sometimes with more quality. I do believe, that you rode both of them, but I really don t understand, why you put a comparison of Toronto 401 just in Czech and no other thread. I follow this thread for a while and do not sometimes understand, why it is a sort of basket of someone emotions towards Czech roads, motorways, whatever... Don t take it personal, mate, I love your humour and was awaiting to see something like:

About three weeks ago Czech Police released official statistics for 2016. It marks about five percent increase in car ownership in Czechia, compared to previous year. This includes just passenger cars and smaller vans, excluding from motorcycles, buses, trucks, etc...:

And the number of fatalities got in 2016 the lowest number ever, even from sixties, when statistics was initialised. However, the number of accidents on motorways compared to previous year have risen a bit. Most reasons for the accident were not full attention when driving, wrong turning, or reversing and not keeping up the safe distance.

Aerial shots from D3 Veseli nad Luznici – Bosilec and a bit of adjacent section. The section is partially opened and think its shots from the air were not posted here before, even if they are from 2016.

It's fairly new, the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued an official letter last year stating that "Czechia" is the official short version of the name of the repulic in English. The czech version "Česko" is already being used for several years as an official short name. It's already included in the well-known "CIA Factbook" https://www.cia.gov/library/publicat...egion_eur.html
